Thoughts of a Monster

It had been peaceful before; that much he could remember. There had been no pain then and the people were pleasant to be around. Then one day strange beings (they weren't people, he could tell) came and offered him a gift; a golden coronet. They meant him harm but he accepted it anyway. Suddenly there was pain and he was torn from his own body. There was nothing now but pain.

Strange voices filled his head; they called him a monster, a murderer. Why would they say those things? He had never harmed an innocent being before and he had certainly never taken a life, so why would they lie? Occasionally he could hear other voices, ones that were kind and gentle but they weren't for him. He decided that he hated those voices the most; at least the other ones didn't pretend to be his friends.

Then one day there was silence. He wasn't sure how or why but he had been freed from the prison within his mind and was in control of his own body once again. He didn't know their names but somehow he knew that these strange beings in front of him were the voices that he heard while trapped. Hatred filled him and he surged forward, desperate to destroy them, to regain the peace that he had once cherished. Then the kind voices spoke and he was returned to his prison once more.

He felt sorrow the next time he was released. The kind voices were gone and a part of him was strangely saddened. They had all been destroyed but there was no peace for him; not here, not right now. There was no freedom to be found at this time.

He was sealed away again but this time there was no pain, no voices to drive him insane and he cherished it. The silence was wonderful and he prayed that it would last forever but that was not to be. All too soon one of the kind voices, the kindest of them all, showed up again and there was pain again.

He was getting stronger though; he could feel it every time he was released. That gave him hope; hope that one day he would be strong enough to silence the kind voices once and for all. If they were silenced then they couldn't seal him away anymore and he could finally be free. He could go back home; to the place where he had been born and he could live there in peace as he had before receiving the coronet. All he had to do was kill them all and then he could finally be alone.
