Alexa and I have known each other forever. She was in the only magic family in Ottery St. Catchpole, the town near the Burrow, so naturally, we hung out all the time. She was my age, after all. We met when we were about eight or nine years old.
George and I would go on adventures together as children, playing tricks on the muggle children of the town. We would laugh hysterically as we sent gnomes chasing the gardeners, which we did often, telling our mom that we threw them over the hedge like we were supposed to. One day, we let a gnome loose in Alexa's yard when she was playing catch with her mother in the front of her house. We knew at once Alexa came from a wizard family when she said, "Mummy, look! There's a gnome in the garden! I saw a picture of one in that magic creatures book you gave me, but I haven't seen any in real life." Muggles think gnomes look like short people with beards and pointed hats, but that's rubbish. They're the same size as what muggles think they are, except they look nothing like muggle gnomes. They knew what real gnomes looked like, and if that wasn't a dead giveaway that they were magic, she even mentioned a magic creatures book. They had to be witches.
At that point, we decided to talk to them. I couldn't leave without saying anything, knowing that there's a magic family right by our house. I stepped out from behind the large bush where we were hiding and said to them, "Sorry about that. We were just playing a prank and thought you were muggles. You see, it's bloody hilarious when muggles run from the gnomes and think it's a mutated squirrel or something."
Alexa looked at me, and at that moment, I thought she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. I could tell that she was nervous by the way she looked at me, and it might've been my imagination, but I think she liked me too.
Her mom's voice snapped me out of my trance. "Oh, you're wizards, too? Where do you live?"
"Just over the hill back there," I reply, pointing behind me, not looking away from Alexa. "I'm Fred, by the way, and this is my brother George."
"What? Oh, hi," George said, not paying much attention.
"Nice to meet you. This is my daughter Alexa. Since you live so close and are also magic, maybe you could play with each other sometime."
"Nice to meet you, too. I hope to see you guys soon!"
"You too."
I raced home as fast as I could to tell my mom about the little magic girl and her mom who lived near us, and soon enough, we were hanging out almost every day, and our parents became close friends.
After several years, we were finally out of Hogwarts, and we were still best friends. We had been best friends for what seemed like forever, but we hadn't started dating yet. I stayed at Alexa's graduation ceremony even though I had dropped out of Hogwarts, so to speak. After the graduation ceremony, she was talking with some relatives, who were gushing about how smart she must be to graduate with some of the highest grades in our year. I walked up to her and congratulated her on surviving the year with Umbridge.
"Thanks, I guess," she replied, laughing.
"Hey, will you go on a date with me?" I asked out of nowhere.
"Um…" I could tell that she did not see that coming.
"Tomorrow night? I know this great new restaurant in Hogsmeade. I'll pay."
She was still surprised. "Sure, I guess."
"Great. I'll pick you up at seven." I winked and walked off.
I could tell that she was still in shock of what happened, but when I walked far away from her, I saw that she was grinning and much happier than before.
The date the next night went swimmingly, and we've been together ever since.
