Separation Anxiety

Zidane sat on the bed that used to be his inside the Tantalus' old hideout.  A couple kids had come inside asking if they'd found the right treasure to enter the group.  He was like that once.  Now look at him…

Flirting with lots of girls and yet…

"Have you asked her out yet?"  One boy had said.

For once, Zidane was speechless.  Sure, it'd be easy to ask any ordinary girl out…but Zidane knew she was anything but normal.

She was the princess of Alexandria.  She was royalty.  While he was…a nobody.  He had a name, but it didn't really stand for much in the real world.  Princess Garnet only had to raise a hand and she'd have people bowing at her feet.

But she wasn't like that.  She was really modest about her power.  As if she wanted to be normal more than be future queen of all Alexandria.

"Someday I will be queen…" She had said, while they flew the airship to Lindblum, "But I will always be myself."

Words of a true leader.  So why did they turn to Zidane for leadership?  He knew how to steal and fight.  He was getting into magic and monsters here.  Something he wasn't too familiar with.

Magic and monsters and princesses, oh my.  What have I gotten myself into?

            Princesses…

Since they came to Lindblum, Zidane hadn't seen much of Princess Garnet.  She was probably back at the castle, where she belonged.  And once they got the preliminaries out of the way, they would ultimately go their separate ways…

Zidane recalled how he had been happy when she chosen to head towards Lindblum.  He was half afraid that she would be scared off and head back towards the castle.  Rusty was right, no matter what he said, he would get hanged for his actions against the princess, even though she asked for it, literally.

I don't want to go our separate ways.  I'm just starting to get to know her and I might never see her again.

It didn't seem fair to Zidane, but then again love wasn't ever meant to be fair.

Wait!  Love?  What am I thinking?   A player never falls in love and never says "I love you" to anyone. That's the rule.  I'm going to ruin my reputation thinking like this.  I'd better get my act together and get this little adventure out of the way, so I can get on to other things.

But it wasn't as simple as Zidane tried to make it out to be.  She kept appearing in his mind every time he closed his eyes…her brown eyes and long brown hair.  Normally, when he touched a girls' behind, like he had when they had boarded the airship back at the village…

            "Oh...soft…"

Things like that wouldn't have gotten to him, but with her, they did.  He wanted to treat her nice, nicer than he did other girls.  He had apologized to her and she slowly forgot about it, but still slammed the door in his face.  He deserved it, or so he felt he did.

Zidane shook his head.  Enough thinking about her.  I may not be able to be with her forever, but as long as I am with her, I promise to protect her and I'll help her through this any way I can.

With that, Zidane got up and walked out of the hideout.  He had a princess to see…
