Chapter 1
I sat awaiting his arrival, he was late. For the first time in 26 weeks, he was late! I could feel it in the air; something was wrong. Then all of the sudden I was proven wrong. Vaughn walked in with a box in his hands, I couldn't tell at all what was in it, but then I heard a whimpering sound and had a guess. "Hey Syd, " Vaughn said with that little playful voice he always used when talking to me. "Hey Vaughn, what's with the box?" I asked. "It's just something you'll need for your next mission, but first let me explain it, " Vaughn's playful smile remained intact. "This is the first mission in a long time that doesn't have anything to do with countering a mission that SD-6 gave you. Your mission is to go to France and recover files from an old C.I.A agents computer. "He like your mother was 'killed'." "What does the C.I.A need his files for?" "There is information in there about how to make a device, kind of like what Marshall does for SD-6, but with much more sophisticated technology. The man that was 'killed', Matt Fitss, made spy devices for the C.I.A." "So, what does this device do?" "We aren't quite sure, that's why you need to go and find out." "Alright, went do I leave?" I asked. "We leave," he said with a grin on his face, " tomorrow at 6:30 am. Don't worry about SD-6, Jack said he would cover for you." "O.k. see you at 6:00 then." "Wait, you take care of the do. I mean you take care of this," handing me the box he said, "until then." Then he left. I looked in the box and I was right. Out popped a dog. "What do you have to do with the mission?" I asked, of course the dog didn't answer. I sat there wondering what to do with it, I couldn't just bring it home, and Francie would want to keep it. So I called Vaughn, he said he would meet me in the park right away and that he felt horrible for not thinking about that.
* * * "Hello sir" I said trying not to let any one around me know that I knew him. "Hello miss, I do believe that box is mine." He said. " What would you be doing with a dog?" " You see tomorrow at around . 6:00am, I will be becoming. blind and I will be needing a guide dog." "But may I ask, are you going to keep the dog with you your whole time in France?" "Miss, how did you know I was going to France? And yes he is very good at finding things" Vaughn answered trying to hint to me what the dog was for. I understood right away. "Alright then sir, sorry to have bothered you!" in a voice that only Vaughn could hear I said, "see you at 6:00."
* * * "Hey, where have you been?" Francie said with a hint of concern in her voice. "I'm sorry, I just went for a walk in the park." I couldn't help but smile. "Well this is definitely not your normal smile" Francie said, " Did you meet a guy or something?" "I guess you could say that," I said trying not to bring Vaughn into this, " I'm going to go take a nap!
