Chapter One

The day was Tuesday, November 17, 2009. My dad and I were making our way to the airport. My parents were divorced and re-married. Mom (Janette Harrison) lived in Skeleton Creek, Oregon. Dad (Tony Demarco) lived in Destin, Florida. I liked the Florida weather. It was warm, and the air tasted like the ocean. I have not seen Janette in over four years. She came to Florida dressed in a winter coat and a scarf. She said that it was forty degrees in Skeleton Creek. I hate cold weather.

As we made our way into the airport, I nearly had tears in my eyes. My dad and I had a great relationship. I would have only a measly telephone line connection with him for a whole semester of school.

"I know that you're a good kid, Stephanie, but I don't want you to get into any trouble up there." My dad always had a way of telling me what to do without totally pissing me off.

"I promise I wont. I'm going to really miss you, Dad." I surprisingly kept my cool while saying this.

"Aww, I don't wanna get all mushy on ya' but I'm gonna miss you too." He gave me a big bear hug.

"I love you." He said.

"I love you too."

We hugged once more and faster than I imagined I was on my way to Oregon. As the plane took flight and rushed out of the city, the tears that had been collecting in my eyes for an hour poured out and onto the book I was attempting to read. After what seemed like days, tears finally stopped and I was able to drift into peaceful sleep.
