"We are so happy to have you back in our lives," Beth would say, smiling widely as she stood in front of her father, who had finally returned to her life.
"Isn't that right, Jerry?" She'd turn, looking over at her husband, who had his arms crossed, looking away and muttering under his breath.
"Summer is in the living room, I bet she would love to meet you." Beth continued, looking back at her dad.
"Didn't you say that you have two kids?" Rick abruptly asked, causing Beth to reel back in what looked to be nervousness momentarily.
"Oh, yeah. Morty's in his room. I'm sure that he'll be very excited to meet you." The smile returned to Beth's face. "Anyways, make yourself at home, dad."
Rick let out a grunt, then headed for the living room.
"Are you sure letting him be here is a good idea?!" Jerry whispered loudly to Beth, once Rick was out of earshot.
"Of course it is." Beth replied. "That man is my FATHER, and he's finally back in my life."
"But what about-"
Beth cut him off. "Don't ruin this for me, Jerry."
"But Beeeeth!" Jerry slumped in defeat.
Entering the living room, Rick slumped down on the couch next to a girl with her hair pulled into a ponytail, texting away on her phone. Noticing the man, she locked her phone, setting it on the couch.
"Sup, er, Summer."
"Oh, hey! You're grandpa Rick, right? Have you met Morty yet?"
"I'll meet him when he finally decides to get his ass in here." Rick pulled out a flask, taking a long drink.
Summer gave a small frown. "Did mom and dad not tell you? He can't do that."
Rick raised his brow, staring at Summer from the corner of his eyes. "What do you mean, can't do that?"
Summer stares at Rick for a moment, an expression of what looked to be disappointment and sadness drawn on her face. Turning to go back to texting, she hesitated before she spoke.
"He's really sick." She said softly. "He can barely get out of bed.
Rick is silent, trying to read whether Summer was serious or not. Once he was assured there was no sign that Summer was kidding, Rick stood up.
"... Where's his room?"
