Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, or any of the characters, they all belong to J.K. Rowling. I'm not her, unfortunately.
Not my best piece of work by far, but that's alright. I like it well enough.
This is a songfic to "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. They're a fantastical band, I love them.
Also, this is un-Beta'd. Sorry for any mistakes.

Last dance with Mary Jane one more chance to kill the pain
She grew up in a Indiana town,
Had a good lookin' mama who never was around.
But she grew up tall and she grew up right
With them Indiana boys on an Indiana night.
Well she moved down here at the age of eighteen,
She blew the boys away; was more than they'd seen.
I was introduced and we both started groovin'
She said, "I dig you, baby, but I got to keep movin' - on.
Keep movin' on."
Last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain.
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm tired of this town again.
He held her close to him, their bodies moving in time to the music, a slow, sad tune. Merlin, he never wanted to let go of her thin frame, but knew that as the song came to an end that his time with her was almost up.
She glanced up, her chocolate-coloured orbs locking with his icy blue ones, and they both felt it. Neither wanted to take their eyes off of the other, yet it was almost time…"Write me." She whispered softly, standing on tiptoe to brush his lips with hers.
"Every day" he replied with a nod of his head. He couldn't bring himself to admit just how much the girl who was currently wrapped in his arms meant to him, but he knew that he would do anything in his power to keep her in his life.
The last, mournful notes of the song rang out, cutting through the air. They parted reluctantly, him watching her walk away, memorising every detail about her, the way she looked, so that he'd never forget her. Never forget the way her dark brown hair was curled in lose ringlets, the way her baby pink dress melted onto her skin perfectly, the way she'd glance back at him, upset to leave him…. So that he'd never forget anything about her.
Well I don't know but I've been told, you never slow down, you never grow old.
I'm tired of screwin' up, tired of goin' down,
Tired of myself, tired of this town,
Oh my, my, oh hell yes - Honey put on that party dress.
Buy me a drink, sing me a song,
Take me as I come . cause I can't stay long.
The last day of your final year of schooling was hard on everyone in the room, but the two newly found lovers were more upset than either of them had ever been in their life. He was carefully schooling his looks so no one would know, while she let a few tears slip down her cheeks.
She reached the doors to the Great Hall, opening them to allow the summer's air to surround her body, envelop her in a warm embrace. As she stepped out into the night, wanting to be away from her friends, her long-time schoolmates, she felt someone's hand fall on her should and spin her around.
"I can't let you go." He whispered hoarsely, bringing his lips to hers in a searing kiss. She smiled up at him, wiping away the last of her tears.
Last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain.
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm tired of this town again.
There's pigeons down on Market Square,
She's standing in her underwear.
Lookin' down from a hotel room,
Nightfall will be coming soon.
Oh my, my, oh hell yes, you got to put on that party dress.
It was too cold to cry, when I woke up alone.
I hit my last number, I walked to the road.
Last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain.
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm tired of this town again.
