The young trainer's hand twitched. A chill ripped down his spine as the wild rattata crept closer to him. He swallowed in fear. Closer and closer it came. He stood perfectly still, aside from the occasional twitch of his hand, as not to alarm it further. He decided that there would be no easy way out of this when it hissed at him.

It quickened its pace when he reached into his pocket. He leaped to his left, dodging the leaping pokèmon. "Help me out, Twist!" He exclaimed as he pulled a pokeball out of his pocket and released a small tepig. "Tepig?!" It exclaimed at the sight of the rattata. It growled at Twist. "Use flamethrower, now!" The trainer commanded.

"Te-pi tepig!" Twist followed this with a pillar of fire bursting out of his nose toward the rattata. The rattata that was purple before, was now black.

It immediately bolted into the woods that it had come out of before.

"Thanks buddy." The trainer said as he kneeled down to pat Twist on the head. "Hello? I-is someone there?" The voice of an elderly man came from the woods.

"Hello?" The trainer called.

"Are you hurt?" The voice asked.

"No. We're fine." Replied the trainer as he returned Twist to his pokeball.

An old man came out of the woods as the trainer put the pokeball back in his pocket.

"My name is Jedediah. Do you need some help?" Asked the old man who was now known to be Jedediah.

"Nice to meet you Jedediah. I'm Korree. And, yeah, I'm trying to get to Newlake City, but I seem to have lost my way." Replied the trainer who is now known to be Korree.

"Nice to meet you too, Korree. I can show you the way if you'd like." Jedediah told him.

"Thanks." Korree said.

"This way." Jedediah said as he pointed toward the east.

Korree began following Jedediah.

"If you don't mind my asking," Jedediah started, "what are you doing in Newlake City?"

"I was invited to compete in a semi-professional competition. Me and Twist are the best trainer and pokemon in Oakbled village." Replied Korree.

"Interestin'. What type of pokemon is Twist?" Asked Jedediah.

"He's a tepig. He hasn't evolved yet, so he gets depressed sometimes. It doesn't last very long at a time though." Answered Korree.

"Oh, I love tepigs! I used to have one.

Loved him with all my heart." Exclaimed Jedediah.

"You can meet Twist when we get to Newlake." Korree told Jed.

The two continued talking as they walked along. An hour or two later, they arrived at the city.

"Well, here we are." Sighed Jedediah.

"Thank you for the directions." Replied Korree.

Korree brought out Twist. And Twist immediately liked the old man. After a few minutes they parted ways. Jed had things to do elsewhere in the city. And Korree went to check in to his hotel.
