"In the front room," decided Polly.
"I was thinking the alcove," Tom said at the same time. "The white lights..."
Now it was Polly's turn to interrupt him. "White lights? Don't you think that's a bit pretentious?" she asked.
He looked at her over the edges of his glasses. "If white lights are pretentious, then colored lights are garish."
"Shall we argue the type of tree as well?" she asked him half-seriously.
"No," he retorted. "A living tree will suffice."
She glared at him- then started laughing.
A living tree with colored lights was put up in the alcove.
