Disclaimer: Oh how I wish I owned Barnabas Collins, I'd let him bite my neck any day (faints). Then I'd resurrect Josette so they could always be together. Sadly, I don't own Dark Shadows so please don't sue.

If the heart is always searching,

Can you ever find a home?

I've been looking for that someone,

I'll never make it on my own.

He could remember seeing her for the first time, dressed in ivory silks and framed by the green backdrop of the Martinique palms, brilliant in her sweet beauty. Though he new he had a tendency to romanticize his life, this girl made him believe in love at first sight. Who was this creature, an angel amongst men? "Madam Josette DuPres, monsieur." answered her handmaiden. "Josette..." he whispered.

Dreams can't take the place of loving you,

There's gotta be a million reasons why it's true.

He could still see her behind his lids of his tortured eyes, feel her soft, cool hands upon his face, feel the radiance and warmth that filled him when she smiled. She was the sun.

When you look me in the eyes,

And tell me that you love me.

Everything's alright,

When you're right here by my side.

He felt he could live upon her very essence, for she was his center. He felt invincible, she had faith in him, he felt whole with her. How could he never have known he was incomplete before her?

When you look me in the eyes,

I catch a glimpse of heaven.

I find my paradise,

When you look me in the eyes.

They were young, the were in love, they were fearless. They thought they would never die, that nothing would part them, sever their bonded souls. He could see their affection, a flame alight in her eyes of deepest cinnamon. She shared his passion for life, he shared her love.

How long will I be waiting,

To be with you again

Gonna tell you that I love you,

In the best way that I can.

"I'm always with you, Barnabas" the wind upon Widow's Hill whispered into his ears. "I'm always yours."

"Why did you have to leave, Josette? You said we would be together forever."

The rushing of the waves was the only sound.

I can't take a day without you here,

You're the light that makes my darkness disappear.

Tears, silent drops of deepest pain upon his cheeks. He could not live and move on, he could not die and be with her. To die would be his greatest salvation, to see the sun again, to see her eyes shining with her never-absent laughter.

More and more, I start to realize,

I can reach my tomorrow,

I can hold my head high,

And it's all because you're by my side.

What if? Thousands of unanswered questions flooded his mind. "If only..."

If only what?

If only she had lived...

If only they'd married...

If only he'd never met Angelique...

If only...

When you're right here by my side.

When I hold you in my arms,

I know that it's forever

I just gotta let you know

I never want to let you go.

He could still feel her soft form held in his warm embrace, her smile lighting the room, filling him. Her laugh the light tinkling sound of finest crystal. He opened his eyes and rose from his coffin...his fay was gone once more, till the morning came and dreams of her came once more.

When you look me in the eyes.

"Forever?" he asked.

"Eternity. I will always watch over you, my love."

"I love you, Josette."

"I love you, Barnabas."
