My first fanfic ever. Just a little one-shot between JJ and a recently rescued victim, who is reunited with her family at last. Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!
Jennifer Jareau observed the 17-year-old girl sitting across the room, concerned for the girl's wellbeing. She had been staring off into space for the last half hour and couldn't stop fidgeting with a lock of her hair. Sighing, the profiler made an easy decision to go talk with her.
"Hi Melissa." JJ smiled at the girl and took the empty chair next to her.
"Hi," she nervously replied.
Melissa had been a victim of the latest case solved by the B.A.U team. When she was just four years old, a man and his accomplice had kidnapped her, only to abuse her and make her witness numerous murders. If the pair of offenders hadn't left a string of killings in Montana, attracting the assistance of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, she never would have been found.
Now she would get to see her parents and twin brother again, a reunited family at last. While Melissa was thrilled to see her family after what had been over thirteen years, she couldn't help but worry at what her family would think of her. Would they like her? Do they get angry easily, and if they do, would they hit her or scream at her? She couldn't remember her parents or brother very well, and the only thing she knew while growing up in the environment created by her abductors was abuse.
"Mel, look at me."
Slowly, she opened her eyes and looked at the friendly agent, the one who had half-carried her out of the dingy shack that she would never call home. The one who stayed with her, reassured her at the hospital, sat next to her and held her hand while she described to the officers what the UnSubs did to her. "Yeah?"
"What those men did to you all those years was horrible, and it was not your fault. Never think it was your fault. What happened to you, that's not fair. You are a great person, sweetie, and you are the most courageous person I know."
Melissa choked back tears as JJ continued, "Your family couldn't be more excited to see you again, they love you very much. They've never stopped missing and loving you."
"Really?"
"Really, Melissa. They are very lucky to have a daughter and sibling as strong as you," JJ said as she squeezed the girl's hand.
"Thanks JJ. For everything." She gave her hero a genuine smile, drying the tears that had pooled in her eyes with her sleeve. She was amazed how JJ always seemed to know exactly what her worries were and therefore always able to reassure her.
"Before I forget, I want to give you my card. I wrote my personal cell number and email on the back as well. Please, don't be afraid to contact me for anything, anytime. If you need help with something or you just wanna talk, please call. I'm here for you," JJ said, handing over her card. She proceeded to pull the petite teenager into a caring embrace. Glancing out the door to the main area of the local police station, she softly whispered in the young girl's ear, "I think some people are here to see you, Melissa…"
Melissa immediately looked up to see her family outside of the room, talking to Agent Hotchner.
"Go on, sweetie, you'll be fine."
"Thanks JJ. I'll contact you soon."
"I'd like that. Bye, Melissa."
JJ smiled to herself as she watched the teen take a deep breath and walk out of the room, thinking how special this moment truly was: the reunion of a family. As her parents and brother bear-hugged Melissa, she knew the girl would be content and well cared for by her family.
An hour or so later, the team was on the jet, heading back to Quantico. JJ couldn't wait to see Will and Henry.
As the moon and stars appeared after a long day and tucking Henry into bed, she heard her phone buzz. Opening a text message, she read:
Thank you so much, JJ. :)
