This has not been beta-read, so don't blame my beta-reader. I didn't send it to her because I don't know where she's gone to, it's been two weeks since I sent my last fic to her and she still hasn't responded ! Anyway, I couldn't wait, so I just post this and assume the consequences.
Disclaimer : I own all. (Just kidding.)
A lost cause
by Goblet of Fire
I've got this picture,
Framed in gold silver,
Buried deep in my heart.
Yellow by the edges,
The picture's age,
I've forgotten.
Guess what's on it,
Isn't it obvious?
It's, it was us.
Yesterday, it was taken,
In front of our castle,
During this cursed day.
That day we swore,
To stay together,
As long as we needed.
To defeat the evil,
Using our own weapons,
Only, which were they?
Unaware of what,
The future held for us,
Who cared anyway?
We formed our group,
Confident and trustful,
What on earth could happen?
We placed our aim too high,
We pointed our arrow wrong,
It did miss its target.
What on earth could happen,
To us,
It happened.
When the first one fell,
Doubt began merging,
Stealing through our hope.
But still, we went on,
With this unwavering faith,
Only teens can afford.
One by one, we were hunted down,
We fought, it got worse,
We hid, useless.
One by one, we died.
Killed off, betrayed,
By those we most trusted.
We ended up,
Crouching in our burrows,
Fearing and waiting.
Fearing, because life was so short.
Waiting, because all the way,
We knew what the end would be like.
Each time one died,
I crossed out,
On the picture, his ever laughing face.
When I look at it now,
I cannot help but notice,
That everyone's gone.
I can hear laughter,
Cold, high pitched,
Heartless.
It's so close,
I know what's coming,
A tear escapes my will.
Slowly, in my mind,
I cross myself out.
What else can I do?
Now I see how foolish we were,
Together, young, proud,
And yet, ignorant and weak.
So many of us, died fighting,
In the struggle for survival,
Only the fittest did.
What for?
For our cause.
Which cause?
A lost cause.
Author's note : Rather depressing, huh ? I like writing depressing things.
It cheers me up. Ha, yes, I know that I'm weird. And, in the seventeenth
paragraph, I said "his", but of course, it can be "hers", too.
