Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Knight by Matsuri Hino. I only borrow her lovely characters for my own torture and amusement.

Why had Kaname gone and done that?

Her insides still burned with shame and embarrassment, as well as indignation.

She had wiped Zero's memories, ghas hoped he would never come here, had hoped that he could live a life that was free of her.

Free, of her, of her conceited, selfish ways that only brought him darkness and pain.

Now, he was free, liberated from the likes of her.

Still, as she looked at the photograph of her and Zero, she couldn't help the tiny pang of anguish that seared her heart.

She had known, had realized, after everything was said and done, that she could no longer cling to Zero or Kaname. She hated hurting them, but what did it matter anymore? Life had ceased to hold anything for her.

Even if there were those who would mourn her passing, it would be better if she was gone. No longer would Zero and Kaname have to deal with her indecisive ways, her selfish clinginess that benefitted no one.

Kaito was right. What she had done to Zero was the epitome of Pureblood atrocities, committed by the 'innocent' princess of Kuran.

They were all beasts, she, the biggest of them all.
