I do not own: Nightmare Before Christmas or anything involved in the movie. All belongs to Tim Burton. Though I wish I did.
It was around midnight, the snow falling steadily over the macabre little town of Halloween. The Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, paced the den of the tower, his domain, deep in thought about his one and only, Sally. He wondered how he was going to ask for her hand without being to cliche. A smile spread over his skeletal visage when he came to a realization. The Curly Hill; Sally's favorite place, especially when the snow had frozen the living form in it's stead. Though it was the middle of September. Jack sighed, touching the iron frame of the window sill. "Oh well..." He whispered sorrowfully to the air, a few moments before a familiar screech echoed through the tower. Now who could that be at this hour... he thought while glancing at the clock. The skeleton quickly descending the stairway as the second screech was bestowed through the silent monolith. He twisted the brass, almost swinging the door ajar to reveal the mayor. Instead of being the jolly, happy mayor Jack usually seen, he wore a ghostly white face with a look of pain plastered on.
"Jack, I have terrible news, terrible, horrible news"
The Pumpkin King's expression wavered, usually horrible meant great or delightful but from the Mayor's face, it was definitely serious.
"What is it, Mayor?" Jack said with a monotone.
"I'm sorry, your dreariness...Sally is gone"
Jack felt a sharp pang in his chest though he had no heart. He eyed the mayor with false hope
"Gone as in...missing..?" He said with false hope.
"Burned while gathering Deadly Nightshade in the cemetery, I'm truly sorry"
Jack nodded and thanked the mayor for the insight before shutting the door in with him still standing there though not intentionally. He hoped the bi-polar mayor understood. When Jack ascended the stairs to his den, he collapsed on his knees before the hearth, sobbing tearlessly for his delicate love, Sally. He was nothing without Sally, he completed him. Sally was the heart he lacked; she wasn't very graceful but she made up for it with her cleverness and compassion. And now she was gone, all that was left of her were ashes blowing through the wind. Jack could never live well unlive without her by his side, and he wouldn't. The skeleton walked over to the window and opened it, a light wind whistled inside and veered a few snowflakes which melted immediately. He crouched on the sill then hurled into the air with his eyes closed. The feeling of weightlessness reminded him of when he had leaped off the stone angel during his visit to the mortal world. Though, gravity quickly acted upon him and he onto the cobblestone street. His bones shattered.
Jack rose with scream which startled Sally whom was lying next to the skeleton .
"Jack," she yawned "are you alright?"
He didn't respond but merely embraced her tenderly, burying his face in her hair.
"Oh Sally, I thought I lost you," he whispered, struggling to control his voice.
"If anything ever happened to you I...I don't know what I'd do.."
"Jack, look at me,"
He did so, staring deeply in her eyes with a slightly sorrowful gaze. A warm smile stretched across her sewn face which seemed to brighten his expression.
"There is nothing that will separate me from you, permanently. Now there is times when we have to suffer being apart even for only a moment"
At this he laughed lightly and kissed her.
"I love you,Sally"
"I love you, too, Jack"
Please Review. I'm pretty sure this story is rather cruddy since I wrote it at 3 in the morning. I truly appreciate constructive criticism. Thank you for reading
