What REALLY happened in "The Book of Life"
Now El Muerte was no fool.
She knew that Xibalba was a Trickster, a liar, if not totally evil, at least too
wicked too trust.
So she watched him. As she expected, Xibalba cheated. Xibalba bribed Daro
into being his Champion. By BUYING from Daro a loaf of bread that belonged to
Daro's late father in exchange for the medal of eternal life.
But the trouble was, Daro wasn't evil. Just confused and frustrated. Daro
wanted to marry Maria, but knew Maria preferred Manolo and would marry
his rival, his best friend. Daro just wanted to change Maria's mind, change
Maria's heart.
So, La Muerte decided NOT to cheat, but instead to do something Xibalba
had NOT told La Muerte NOT to. La Muerte had Maria sent to Spain. Hardly had
Maria left port did every pretty young girl in town threw themselves at
Daro. Just to be TOTALLY fair, the sweet young things did the same to
Manolo. Daro kept from getting too serious about any other girl than
Maria by dating a different girl every day. Until Daro had dated every
girl in town. So Daro went to the next town and dated every girl his age
there…. Then the town AFTER that….
Meanwhile, Manolo waited for Maria as he had promised. It wasn't easy,
but she was worth it to him.
Just before Maria was going to sail for Home, Daro received a letter from
Spain asking him to come to Spain to visit VIPs there. They promised him
a medal with similar wealth-generating powers to Mr. McDuck's Lucky Dime.
Daro left with all speed. Unknown to Daro, his ship sailed past Maria's ship
bound for home. Need I tell you who Maria married?
What else benefited Maria, too?
The End.
All's fair in Love and War. Villains cheat and lie for War. Heroes only do it for Love.
