Dean woke up in the middle of the night to Chloe crawling into the bed beside him. Rolling over to face her he groggily asked "Chloe?".
"Hey Dean." Chloe just said in return and moving closer, wrapped her arms around him and snuggled up to him.
Well, this was new, not that he was complaining but knowing Chloe she must have had a reason to crawl into bed next to him in the middle of the night other than a sudden need to snuggle with him.
"Chloe, not that I'm complaining but what are you doing here?"
Resting her head in the crook of his neck Chloe mumbled "Had a nightmare."
Surprised Dean rose an eyebrow in the dark, after everything Chloe had been through in her life she didn't scare easy and if she did get scared on occasion she usually wasn't one to let others see her weakness.
"A nightmare? Since when do you let a nightmare scare you out of bed?"
Ignoring the last bit Chloe answered "I was back in the three months."
Chloe didn't need to elaborate further, Dean knew which three months she was talking about and why she came crawling into his bed. There were only one three months, that dreaming about them, would have this effect on Chloe. Chloe didn't talk much about those three months but she did tell him and Sam that she had been alone once for three months, abandoned and left behind, either by choice or by force, by everyone she cared about.
The haunted look that had darkened her eyes when she had told them that had told Dean so much more than what she was saying out loud. He knew that look, knew it all too well, it was the same one that stared back at him out of the mirror whenever he woke up from another nightmare about his time in hell, which still happened more often than he liked to admit even after all this time that had passed since then.
Those three months had been Chloe's own personal hell, her greatest fear since she was a little girl had become a reality.
Dean laid an arm over Chloe's waist and drew her closer, trying to lift her mood he said "You know Chloe, you really don't need an excuse if you want to share a bed with me."
Chloe hit him on the chest "Jerk."
Tightening his grip around her in response to the hit, Dean added "And you should really stop hanging out with my brother so much. He's rubbing off on you."
Dean felt the grin more than he saw it "And that is bad how?"
"I really don't want to see you as my sister."
Chloe lifted her head slightly and kissed him on the chin "Don't worry, I'll make sure that's never going to happen."
Resting his chin on Chloe's head Dean returned "Good."
After that they both fell quiet, and after a few minutes Dean closed his eyes again and slowly drifted back to sleep. But just as he was about to go under, he heard Chloe whisper sleepily "Thank you." before she snuggled even closer and fell asleep.
With a small silly grin appearing on his face, that Sam would make him pay for tomorrow, Dean went back to sleep too.
