Thunder

The rain was falling upon the earth behind the glass window filling the air with the scent of wet dirt. Grey eyes watched with wonder, fingers dancing along the glass. It was really beautiful out, so solemn and calm. The grass bent under the pressure of the rain drops, bending under the will of water. The sky above was slate colored, the clouds hiding the sky, and thunder rumbling in the distance. It was really a pretty sight to the man who stood by the window. Things like these didn't happen every day, the sight of rain a thing that only came once in a season. His grey eyes closed, and he stepped away from the window, leaving the rain behind with a sigh.

Yuki Sohma wandered through the sleeping home, the sounds of snores coming from the room of Shigure whom he had just past. Another sound came, that of dry muttering, it must have been from Kyo's room. The cat was very tired during the rainy season. Perhaps Yuki would go outside tonight, look at the rain from the porch. He smiled softly, thinking about if he wanted too or not.

Brushing stray strands of grey hair from his eyes, he stopped in mid step as he passed the room that belonged to Tohru Honda. The sound of thunder rumbled closer, and as it faded he heard the sound of sniffles coming from the room. He raised an eyebrow, and went over the thoughts of going into the girl's room or not. He didn't want to disturb her, but he really didn't like the sounds coming from his room. His grey eyes widened as he saw a flash of lighting pass by the window next to him, the sound of thunder booming in his ears. He heard a muffled scream from the room before him and quickly turned the handle.

As he entered, he saw Tohru curled up on her bed, her eyes tightly closed, tears streaming down the sides of her face. Was Tohru afraid of Thunder? He turned on the lights in the girl's room, and then looked at her again, her frightened expression not falling from her face. He heard the sniffling sound again, and he walked closer to the bed, looking at the girl curled up in the blankets.

"Miss Honda?" he asked in a soft voice, looking down at her face which was still tight with fright. "What's the matter?" He sat at the side of her bed, and watched her slowly open her eyes, soft brown pools looking into his own. Her chocolate depths stared into his, and an inaudible whisper fell from her lips, he leaned closer, and asked again, "What?"

"T-thunder..." She muttered, and he nodded in acknowledgement. He sat right beside her, and stroked a few strands of brown from her face, a sad smile lifting at his lips. "P-please don't leave," she murmured, and took hold of the grey haired man's hand. "P-please?" she whispered, looking at him with her wide eyes. He nodded, and she sighed so softly. "Thank you, Yuki-kun, thank you." His cheeks heated up, but he remained by her side as he promised.

"One day," he whispered to himself, "I will open the lid."
