The "Stupid" Trade
Dedicated to my mom, who is fourtanately still here with me. Love ya mom!
Cory Johnson loved collecting Pokemon cards. He had almost a complete set. But one day, his mother died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Once Cory showed up at the playground to trade cards. He walked over to a boy who had a complete set. "I'll trade you these for that Bulbasaur," said Cory, holding up his five rarest holo cards. "Okay," said the other boy, a bit flabbergasted. "Thank you," said Cory simply. The other kids teased him. "There goes your Charizard, Blastoise and anything else good you had!" they jeered. "You made the stupidest trade in the history of trading!" said another kid. Cory endured their laughter and jokes.Untill one day, Cory told them, "I made that trade for a good reason. My mother died and Bulbasaur was her favorite Pokemon. I traded for it to put on her grave." And with that, Cory Johnson walked away. The teasers and laughers stood stunned and silent. Later that day, the kids showed up at Cory's house. They rang the doorbell, dropped something on the welcome mat, and ran off. Cory answered the door later, and picked up the surprise. It was an Ivysaur and a holo firt edition Venusaur. "Thanks, guys," Cory whispered. In the kidly way off the world, the jokers had said sorry. A few days after that, Cory went and put the cards on his mother's grave. "Mom, these are for you," he said aloud to the sky. "I hope you like them. And if you are in peace, just let the wind blow a bit...." Cory waited, then a warm wind enfulged him, like one of his mother's hugs. "Thanks a ton, mom," said Cory as he walked off with tears in his eyes.
EPILOGUE
Cory Johnson promised his mother one day that he would be the best in the Pokemon Trading Card Game League. And he did, going on to dominate the league. He became a Gym Leader. And all his battles were for his mom. What happened to the "Stupid" trade? Simple. It was'nt a stupid trade. Cory accually got the better deal. Because no card is worth the amount of love.
