This is one of two stories that start the same. The other is happier. Warning for CHARACTER DEATH and SUICIDE.

If one put L's two first heirs in a room together only one word befit them – juxtaposition.

A was a workaholic. As L's first heir he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders'. He needed to impress L, to prove he could be the next great detective.

Beyond was a slacker. At least in school. B was busy with his…extracurricular work. Pranks and troublemaking, he'd found, were the best ways to get L's attention.

Their only similarity was their need for L's attention. The wish to have their intelligence and achievements acknowledged. Neither got their wish. A – with golden hair and doey brown eyes, with hard work and tears hidden in the dark of night. B – the ghost pale, red eyed black haired L-look-alike, prankster. But L never saw them.

One night it was too much for A. The stress drove him to suicide. He sat in his bathroom and slit his wrists. The body was found the next morning, when the boy didn't show up to class. A small, cold body, with glassy brown eyes, in a pool of bright red blood. Perhaps he would have been happy to know L noticed.

Beyond reached the point where harmless pranks weren't enough. L became used to them, stopped noticing. It was time for his grand plan. He vanished from Wammy's House, Years later a serial killer appeared in LA. Three victims and the locals couldn't solve it, nor could the FBI. So L came. He came and noticed BB one last time, when he put him to jail. Maybe that was the end. But maybe, just maybe, L's mind wandered to LA's BB murder investigation often. Beyond Birthday liked to think it was the latter.
