"Dad," Jimmy said as he sat down at the table waiting for Barbara and Babs to join so they could finally have a rare family meal together.
"Yes?" Gordon said nodding to show his son he was listening.
"Well, a kid in class today said that Batman was stupid and gay."
"Jimmy, you know we don't use that kind of language in our house,' Gordon uttered sternly towards his son. After everything that Batman had done and sacrificed for the people of Gotham Jim couldn't understand how people thought. He found himself smiling anyways because the image of a tall muscled masked vigilante running around in a pink tutu beating up criminals appeared in his mind, parading through his thoughts.
"What's so funny?" Batman asked in his deep scratchy growl drawing Gordon quickly from his thoughts.
"Nothing..." Jim replied wondering if he should tell Batman about his conversation and anomalous thought. After a moment of silence, and Batman's patience, Gordon heard himself tell the masked man about what had occurred earlier that evening.
The silence stretched on and Jim thought for a moment that maybe he had offended him, but then Batman's shoulders started to shake and he was laughing in a way that was very un-Batman-like. Gordon laughed a little as well, Batman's deep chuckle contagious.
"Actually Gordon," Batman growled out after their laughter had subsided, "I'm not exactly straight."
For some reason that didn't really surprise Jim all that much. Jim opened his mouth to tell the vigilante just that, but when he turned around Batman had disappeared into the darkness of Gotham.
