Preface.
I was sprawled across a concrete floor. That was about as much as I could make out. I could hardly feel anything, let alone lift my head or stay in consciousness for more than ten minutes at a time. I was aware that right leg was broken just above the knee. I had the sinking feeling that my wrist was broken, along with numerous fingers and toes and probably some ribs for good measure. There was cuts, bruises and fresh bite wounds covering every inch of my skin. I knew that death was imminent, and frankly, at this present time death would have been the best possible outcome.
I heard a door opening and I shuddered mentally. I didn't know who it was, so I pretended to be unconscious.
"I can't wait to turn her. I can tell she will be a great asset to us." The female voice that was behind these words was cold with no emotion.
She continued to speak softly to someone who didn't seem to have a voice. Eventually the other one uttered his words; his voice was deep and raspy.
"You have done me proud, my beautiful Anna. Thank you."
I heard the door shut, but I knew I wasn't alone.
Minutes later, I felt cold breath whisper around my neck and suddenly, fangs bit deep into my jugular. As the life was being drained out of my already battered body, a thought ran through my mind fleetingly.
'They come first.'
