A/N: I know I've already posed this one, but I changed my mind and decided to make it a one-shot piece of fluff.

The characters are not mine... But if i had the choice, I would keep Chaucer...

He was drunk again. He was always drunk. Always, when he went to see her. He told himself it was the stress of the job - after a hard day of shouting a drink is always needed. He told himself it wasnt nerves - Geoffrey Chaucer was not a name deemed synonymous with nerves. Even if he was meeting her in one tavern or another he would be drunk; and she would know. She could tell from the way that he looked at her across the table, or the way he put his arm around her -

"He's fast!

He's funny!

He makes me lots of money..." - was a particular favorite of his.

She wondered if he ever noticed the way her eyes lit up when she saw him. He'd told her once, in a moment of drunkenness, that she had beautiful eyes; and she believed him, berating herself ever since for falling for a poet.

Tonight it was just them.

William was with his beloved Jocelyn. Roland - courting Christina. Wat... well, God only knew what Wat was up to, probably passed out in a ditch somewhere.

Geoff smiled as he caught sight of her, waiting at the only streetlamp in the darkened streets.

"Good evening, Kate." he bowed low, making her chuckle.

"So, where are you taking me tonight Geoff?" she replied.

Chaucer's mind raced, glad that he could bame his reddening cheeks on the ale he'd had in the pub down the road. He put his arm around her.

"Anywhere you desire to, my little blacksmith. The night is ours."

Kate could smell the alcohol on his breath as he leant down to speak to her.

Her arm crept around his waist, rough fingers accidently brushing skin as she hooked her thumb behind his belt.

Skin burned, cooling in the night breeze that swept the street.

Geoff smiled at her and kissed her on the nose; he couldn't help himself - she was just so cute.

Kate blushed, but said nothing.

And so they stumbed away into the night together.

It was going to be a good night.

Fin.

The rest is up to your imagination!
