The Aftermath
I watch my children play through my kitchen window as I skin several small fowl for our dinner. Peeta and I have 2 children, a boy and a girl. My little boy,
Amuel is four and my little girl Jayd is 6. They are playing with Buttercup, who just had kittens, believe it or not. I adopted her after Prim's
passing. It took her a while to warm up to me but she eventually did, though she likes Peeta better.
My nightmares have gotten a little better and less frequent but I know they will never go away. After the rebellion Peeta and I settled back down in District 12.
During this time he relentlessly tried to convince me that it was alright to start a family, though I was very reluctant. But 6 years later, I had them. I am very
happy Peeta convinced me because they are such a blessing to our lives and now we could never live without them. Peeta always tells me that Jayd reminds
him of me when I was her age. I think the same about Amuel.
The term Hunger Games is practically nonexistent. The arenas have been destroyed and the Capitol is in ruins, with no rule whatsoever. The districts have
become increasingly independent these past couple years. For example, District 12 has built a textile factory and a greenhouse along with much land for crops,
courtesy of District 11. District 13 is functioning well, but I still refuse to go back there because it brings back to many bad memories. My mother lives with us,
she helps with the cooking and works as a nurse in our NEW hospital. Gale has gone to work in District 11 as a Weapon's Specialist, there he is dating a girl.
Annie has been doing well since Finnick's passing but she still misses him... We all do. Haymitch has laid off the drinking and comes over
occasionally to play with the kids. Anyone can tell he misses his family. But life has really been good since the rebellion. I hunt a little but not much
anymore...Amuel and Jayd know nothing about the games at the moment, but Jayd will learn of them this year in school. It will be hard when she comes home
asking questions but Peeta says we will get through it as a family. I know he speaks the truth.
Well that's it!
Please R&R and tell us what you think!
