Author's note: no holiday song this time (unless you pass the holidays with a lot of alcohol of course...). But this got stuck in my head last night to the point that it prevented sleep from coming. So instead of getting annoyed with not being able to sleep, I decided to put my nocturnal earworm to good use :-)
Cautionary note though: this was based on the Dutch version. Looking it up on youtube, I discovered that where the Dutch version starts the penultimate line with an upbeat (like line 2, 4 and 6), the English version gets right onto the emphasis there.
Knowing there is an extra little note at the beginning of each 5th line might just help you to sing along! And apologies for the confusion!

Ten Young Ladies
(and Newkirk is in Love)
.
Ten young ladies
And Newkirk is in love
One he brings in
To camp with him – oh my!
Who could have thought that she was
A real Gestapo spy?
So now there's nine young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One he rescued
From an SS patrol
But now that danger's past
To England she will go...
So now there's eight young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One's real pretty
But oh, what a surprise
When it turns out that this
Is Danzig in disguise!
So now there's seven young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One who writes him
Of London's goings-on
But then the mail call brings him
A letter for Dear John...
So now there's six young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One's a barmaid
He met her once before
But Colonel Hogan orders
For him to watch the door...!
So now there's five young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One's so gorgeous
He asks her for a dance
A slap is all he gets
He never stood a chance...
So now there's four young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One is truly
The sweetest of them all
Until she tells him that she
Is married after all...
So now there's three young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One's the voice of
Their trusted Mama Bear
But London's far away
Oh, why can't he be there?
So now there's two young ladies
For Newkirk left to love
One writes stories
Yes, on the fanfic board
But when she kills him off
He hauls her into court!
So now there's one young lady
For Newkirk left to love
She's a beauty
He wants her in his bed
But she says she prefers
The Governor instead!
So now there's no young ladies
And Newkirk is upset
Schultz has never
Seen him so down before
He says, Girls are like war
There'll always be some more...
Why don't you try your luck with
Frau Linkmeyer instead?
