I got this idea when I was listening to the song "Emotionless" by Good Charlotte. Hope you all like it :)

"Emotionless"

Alex stood in his worn down apartment kitchen staring at one envelope. It wasn't a shut off notice or anything of that sort. It was from Jordan Alexander Wolff; Alex's eldest son. Pushing his curly hair out of his face, Alex picked up the envelope and opened it slowly, afraid the thin paper would spontaneously combust in his face.

Like his life had.

Alex sat down in one of the wooden chairs and his eyes scanned the note. Guilt filled his body as he remembered how he had let down his entire family. He never meant for it to happen. He was young at the time. But by being the wild, rebellious partier that was indeed the true Alex Wolff, he ended up hurting his sons, Jordan and Riley, his daughter, Katie, his brother Nat, and most of all, the love of his life, Juanita.

Alex mentally pushed away the tears as he read the messy handwriting that was like his own.

"Dad,

Just wondering how you are. I know it's been about fifteen years, so in case you don't remember, that means I'm now twenty-three. We're all fine here. I graduated college two years ago, and now I'm a father of a baby boy. My wife, Sarah, and I named him Nathaniel, (or Little Nat), after Uncle Nat since he was more of a father to me than you were after you left.

Speaking of Uncle Nat, he and Aunt Rosie are fine. Little Alex ended up marrying Uncle Qaasim and Aunt Grace's daughter, Ashley. They just had a baby girl, Margaret Louise. She was born a few weeks after Little Nat. As for everyone else, they're still up here in New York, none of the families have moved.

Katie and Riley are fine too. Katie's in her third year of college and Riley's in his last year of high school. They're both at the top of their classes, if you cared, you'd be so proud of them. I guess they're lucky that they don't remember you as much as I do. But at the same time you used to be so cool. I don't know what happened, but we're doing fine without you.

And Mom, she hasn't been the same. You broke her heart Dad. Every night she cries herself to sleep. I spent the rest of my childhood listening to that every night. It broke my heart to hear Mom cry like that. She shouldn't have had to. I tell her she deserved better than you, but she still denies it. She hasn't dated anyone, or even taken off her wedding ring. I know she still hurts; Riley, Katie and I do as well.

I've finally put this all behind me and decided that I don't hate you. You're my Dad and I'll always love you. The fact that you walked out on us for a reason I'll never know is now in my past. Katie and Riley still wonder if you miss us at all. But honestly, I have to say I don't care about how you feel about us anymore. It was your choice to leave, and you never came back, or even gave us a phone call.

This is the only letter I'll send to you. It doesn't matter if you write back or not. I just figured I'd let you know how everyone is doing. And just so you know, I miss you. Even after fifteen years, I still miss you.

Love your son,
Jordan Alexander Wolff

P.S. - Little Nat's middle name is Alexander."

Alex wiped tears from his face as he held the letter in his hands. He had been such a horrible father, and they still care about and miss him. Without giving it a second thought, he went into his room and grabbed a few of his belongings and threw them into an old duffle bag. He held the letter close to him as he left the apartment and got into his Silver 2001 Honda Civic, preparing for the sixteen hour drive to New York.
