Annabeth POV
I, Annabeth Chase, am probably the stupidest girl in the whole entire world. Yes, I am the daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and battlestrategy but really, right now, battlestrategy wasn't going to help me. Percy was gone and it was my fault.
It had actually been a quite pleasant night, since it was summer. The air was hot, even at night. But I had felt that something was wrong. I grabbed my knife and slid out of the cabin. As soon as I stepped into the hot night air I saw it. A wolf. But not just any wolf. It was three meters at least, with a tail at least half the size of the body, if not longer. But the worst thing was, the tail was full of metallic spikes. I flinched. What was this? I had never heard of anything like it, and I had heard of a lot of monsters, I'm afraid. I had to get help, but I was frozen to the spot. If I moved the wolf would smell me. If I didn't move the wolf would smell me. Great. What option did it I have? I started to run to the Big House. Chiron. He was my last chance.
I had almost reached the front porch, as I heard a growl behind me. I spun, and there it was. It's eyes were red and piercing. I wanted to yell, but somehow the only thing that came to my mind was a name.
"Percy!" I screamed. I knew this had woken up the campers, at least enough to get help. But it had also made the wolf mad. I got out my knife to fight, but the wolf was faster. It slammed the knife out of my hand. Even better. The gods were totally with me today. The wolf grabbed me and started running. I winced in pain as the claws got to my stomach.
"Annabeth!"
Percy. Help me. I wanted to yell so many things, but the wolf threw me away. I screamed, as a disguisting, cracking noise, told me that my leg was broken.
"Percy!" I tried, but it turned out as a moan. The wolf bent over me, ready to kill me.
"Stop!" he was close now. The wolf turned. It didn't surprise me as it half spoke half growled. The pain was taking over and black dots danced in front of my view.
"What do you want, son of Poseidon," growled the wolf.
"Let her go," I heard Percy say calmly.
"Never!"
"Take me instead."
My stomach did a sommersault.
"Percy, no!" I gasped. He ignored me. The wolf seemed to think about this.
"Very well."
"Annabeth! Percy!"
Chiron. Save us please. I looked up the hill. The campers were all staring in mute shock. Help us, I thought. Why didn't they come?
"Stay back, centaur!" growled the wolf, "son of Poseidon has just been so stupid to sacrifice himself to a poor daughter of Athena," the wolf laughed - well, as good as wolves can laugh. Then he slammed Percy to the ground. Percy moaned. The wolf picked him up again and threw him. Not what I had expected. The campers gasped. The wolf laughed. My world was turning black. No, I told myself, save him. Get up! I heard Percy scream in pain from wherever he landed.
"Percy!" I screamed. The wolf laughed harder, bolted over to where Percy was, picked him up, and with that he bolted out of the camp. With another scream of his name, my world turned black.
