Author's Note: Hello! This is my first one-shot and first fic posted on this site. *insert cheering here* This was inspired by the beginning of the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I saw a clip of "Hoist The Colors" on youtube and I was haunted by the song and the scene. I swear it wouldn't leave me alone, so this drabble popped into my head. I know it's probably been done but I had to write my own version. It's short, I know but this is what came out.
Also, mucho thanks to my friend Gaelicspirit for betaing this for me real quick. She's the one that made this read a whole lot better. Love ya, chica! ;)

They never stopped singing, those who were about to die.
Even soon after the little boy who started it all was gone from this world.
In fact, they soon began to sing with much more fervor when the boy no longer could.
One by one, men and women all walked up to the gallows, their heads held high, singing his song over and over. Their melodious voices cracked under the strain of their emotion as soon as they felt the coarse rope looped around their necks, feeling the sudden weight of death heavy on their shoulders.
But they never stopped.
Their voices carried throught out the courtyard, drowning out the sound of wood creaking as the masked executioner pulled the trap doors open from beneath their feet. The only sound they made then was is their chains rattling as they fall.
The line went on and on, almost seemingly like it was never ending. Their chained feet and chains clanked and pounded in rhythm of with the song. They never missed a beat. Even the last group of seven was in perfect harmony.
I was the last.
I grabbed hold of the melody where when the last seven men and women sang to their last breath, never faltering as I walked to the gallows, the chains on my wrists and feet, softly clinking against my dirty, tattered dress.
Because I gave a pirate food and water.
Dusk was upon us now, and I felt a chill go through me as the cold air touched my skin. But I never stopped. I stood where the little boy once stood. Wwhere he started it all. Where it would end with me.
The courtyard glowed from the torch lights. I strained my eyes at to the back of the yard, searching for the familiar outline of the man who put us here. No doubt that Lord Beckett would still be here after so many hours, watching as every single one of us die.
From beginning, to end.
It's quiet now. Only the sounds of the wind blowing and my hoarse voice singing broke the silence of the courtyard, but I can still hear them. Every last one of them, singing.
I let out a tiny gasp when I felt the rough noose around my neck, but I never stopped. I glanced down, noticing the silver coin beside my feet that once belonged to the boy. It fell just as helplessly as he did.
My throat burned and cracked from the tears that threaten to rise up. The courtyard light suddenly blurred as my eyes filled, tears of defiance trickling down the sides of my dirty cheeks. But I didn't care. I didn't stop.
Swallowing back a sob with my heart pounding, my eyes never left to the spot where Lord Beckett stood. I raised my head boldly, and as loud as I could for everyone in the courtyard to hear, I sang the last verse of the song with a small, teary smile.
"Never shall we die."
I heard the wood clank and felt a sudden blinding jerk as my legs and feet kicked wildly.
Never finding the ground.
Fin.
