my rock

The sky was a musky dark blue that night. There were clouds in the sky which made it impossible to see the stars she wished so badly to look at. She wanted to feel secure; safe.
A single tear rolled down her cheek. She didn't make a noise though, scared to wake him up. It had been a long day for both of them, each for different reasons.
She looked down at her stomach and rubbed it lightly despite she wouldn't get a kick. Why couldn't she tell him? She had asked for honesty from day one, yet she couldn't give it herself.
"What will it take for you to accept me?" He asked, leaning on the hood of his car.
"Honesty."
He nodded, then answered, "Fair enough."
She turned to look at him causing a creak on the floor and her light blonde hair to fall behind her shoulders. He was sleeping peacefully; his chest moved up and down keeping a rhythm. She started at him; his hair, his closed eyes…He looked peaceful. Calm.
She quickly turned back to look into the empty spaces of the sky. Guilt was eating her down piece by piece. It would destroy her, she was sure of. Unless she told him.
Quickly, she shook her head and continued to stare. The clouds had moved ever so slightly from when she had started watching. She could catch a glimpse of a star. It shone bright through all the darkness.
Her pale hand reached up in a motion to attempt to grab the single ball of fire. A childish move she knew, but how could she resist? It was her key to security. How could she not want to have that close to her? Near her?
She heard a soft mumble and the sheets of the bed shuffle slightly and she turned back to see the back of his head now; her husband. A smile spread over her face. He was her security. He was her rock. She didn't need a star to provide her that.
She curled up in his chest; firm but soft somehow. She felt him stroke her hair slowly and softly, toying with the strands of her golden hair. She liked this feeling. Safety, love, secure. The stars shone brightly that night after a long glance at them, she moved her ocean blue eyes so they were focused on his hazel ones. A smile crept upon her face as he kissed her softly. He pulled away letting her blink a few times before him leaning his forehead onto hers.
"I love you."
Finally, she walked over to his bed slowly and climbed onto the mattress pulling up the sheets. She shook him lightly, still sitting up. He groaned and rubbed his eyes.
"What's wrong Lil?"
"I need to tell you something." She whispered. He rose up and looked at her. There were light bags under his eyes from the little sleep he had received. Tears formed in her own.
"I'm sorry." She whispered. He pulled her into him and she let a few sobs out into his wife beater.
"What's wrong? Tell me what's wrong Lilly."
"Joe, she's dead. She died. I'm sorry. I'm found out earlier today, but I just…I couldn't tell you." She kept her head in his chest. She felt his body tense.
"What?"
"Our baby died." She repeated, now looking into his eyes. She saw tears; hurt and sorrow filled his usually happy orbs.
"Please…Please don't hate me."
Now, he looked at her, "I don't. I love you remember?" A small smile appeared, "We'll get through this together. The two of us against the world."
