Headphone Actor
I was at my house doing nothing when I heard the radio on top of my tv say some breaking news. It was the mayor, he was choking in his tears as he spoke.
"I'm sorry to say this breaking news, but... the world is going to end today." My eyes widened at this news. In front of me was a desk with a PSP that had a video game half finished but unsaved and my social studies book to study for the test on Thursday. My body was shaking in fear. To stop this, I merely just put my headphones on and went outside to walk to my friend's, Taye's house.
I was listening to a song I don't remember the title but the artist was unknown. I turned the corner to Taye's house when I heard something shocking from my headphones.
"Do you want to survive?" I recognize that voice, it sounds like my own. Of course I want to survive!
"See that hill over there?" I notice the hill that looked about 2 miles away. "Cross that hill in 20 minutes and you will survive. Your time starts now."
I started running. I was afraid to find out what this voice meant so I just listened and ran to cross the hill. I ran as fast as my legs could take me. Minutes passed where I passed an intersection filled with people. Some of those people I even knew. I could see the guys, including the mellow Bodie, rioting to town hall with flames and knives and my other friend, Dare, sobbing and walking the same direction. I passed them all by. If everything was gonna be gone, I might as well listen to the voice, I had no other choice. Dare noticed me running towards the hill and called out to me.
"Emilia! Where are you going! Town Hall is that way!" Dare pointed towards the other direction. I ignored her. She didn't know what's going on, and I don't have much time left to tell her.
"Twelve minutes left." The voice in my headphones told me. I sped up the pace. I could feel tears run down my cheeks at the thought that everyone was gonna die. Everyone I cared for, gone. Even if I do survive, I'll be alone. The hill is right there. I sped up even more.
"One minute left." The voice has spoken again. But I couldn't hear it. The hill was right in front of me now, crossing would be easy.
I am here. I crossed the hill and I am now surrounded by the white walls like I'm in a waiting room. I hear footsteps. Tan... What is he up to?
"Great work Emilia," Tan said plainly. God I hate him. The way my ugly name rolls off his tongue. "I'm afraid I must tell you, you've been living your whole life in a box, you're town has just been a mere experiment, a useless experiment I might add."
Tan walked to the edge of the hill, with the town in sight, he pulled out an orb and just calmly threw it. In a second, the town is in flames. Everyone, Taye...Dare... Bodie... They're gone. Everyone is gone. The town is gone. Everything and everyone oblivion. Tears stream down my cheek and I know Tan has disappeared. I feel lightheaded, about to faint, but before I do, the voice in my headphones, MY voice, speaks one last time.
"Sorry."
