Horatio Caine stood at the freshly dug grave of his brother Raymond, his proper grave this time. The one he was certain actually contained his body. He'd stood by this site many times before but that had all been a lie. Raymond hadn't actually been dead then. This time he was certain because he had been there. He had found Ray strung up in a hut in Brazil. Ray had died in his arms. He knew his brother had died the way he had lived, or maybe because of the way he had lived. But that didn't ease the guilt he felt because he was the older brother and was supposed to watch out for his younger brother.
The old headstone had been removed and replaced with a newer one, one with his proper date of death. Otherwise it was the same. Horatio toyed with the sunglasses in his hands, as he recalled the first time he had "buried his brother." It didn't get any easier the second time. The sense of loss was just as strong.
