In life we are faced with unpleasant truths, like bruises, or the death of a dove,
I will give you another now, this account of those who strayed too far into love.
Let me tell you a story,
Of lovers, of loss,
Of life, and of all that I knew.
My dear, all that's good demands its due cost.
And it breaks me to say that to you.
There once was a dragoness,
So young and so bright,
Who thought the stars were in her claws.
And my dear, it was love stirring that night.
She thought it would transcend all the laws.
There once was an IceWing beau,
So solemn and sweet,
Who thought he could do as he pleased.
And my dear, their affair made both hearts beat.
But some tensions cannot be appeased.
There once was an angry home,
So cold and so gray,
Where love blossomed, and burned, and died.
And my dear, that's just how the cards are played.
It will only hurt more to ask why.
There once was a hatching egg,
The first of the pair,
With a child born of broken vows.
And my dear, this could have gone anywhere.
Then the wants of fate brought us to now.
Now there is a chained widow,
So old and so tired,
Who watches the years pass her by.
And my dear, that's the tale true love inspired.
We laugh for a day, for the next we cry.
Let me give you a warning,
Those words that I wish,
I could have known at the start.
My dear, all adored will be sorely missed.
Time will always hack holes in a heart.
Let me tell this to you once,
All will flash and fade,
So don't stray too far into love.
My dear, see the price the wild youth paid.
Lust spoils and stings, romance can turn rough.
Let me leave you with that now,
My wisdom is spent,
I have said all I can think of.
My dear, there were words I said and I meant.
Now, you, don't stray too far into love.
If there are any that the cruelest of fates have rained down upon from above,
I tell you with certainty and bitterness, it is those who stray too far into love.
