Those That Rise/Chapter 1: Before.
I wake up on a school day like every other teenager does, groaning and cursing the alarm clock and world for waking me up for reasons I don't find important. I sit up in bed, the dark cover partially falling off of me as I do. I look around at the dark confines beyond my bed that is my room and stand up. After stretching I put on some black jeans and a black shirt before messing up my already messy longish brown hair. When I walk into the kitchen I see my sister with her head on the table. I know she's not asleep, only wishing she was.
I ignore her and go to the cabinet and grab some cereal as I glance at the clock. 6:40. I groaned inwardly and out before pouring the cereal and eating it dry. "Hey Amy, we gotta go we're already late and mom ain't up to take us"Her tired hazel eyes look up at me long enough to groan and stand up, I chuckle to myself before ruffling her hair (which she swung at me for) and grabbing my backpack from a corner as I eat my cereal. I walk to and out of the door after putting my cereal down, Amy already in front of me.
I look down my normal suburban road down at my school, which was luckily on the same street. As I walk down the road, my footsteps quiet, I see a short kid rushing out of his house at which I roll my eyes good naturedly. "Chance! Hey wait up!"I smile and slow my pace. As Alex catches up to me I knuckle bump him and then walk faster again. I frown when we walk down the street, watching the school get closer with every step. We walk in and go our separate ways, I to my locker and him to hit on girls he wouldn't ever get with.
Afterwards, we meet up in Biology class and chill. At least till Jay D and James walked up, smiling and joking around, being loud and obnoxious as usual, some of their more admirable qualities."Dude check this out man! Jay D totally killed on this drawing, check it out!"I look as Jay D opens his notebook to a carefully sketched drawing of a zombie.
"Kick ass Jay D, you know I'm buying that off you right?"
"Kinda guessed." He says with a smile. We're interrupted by the arrival Alex's cousin Jen. She looks up at me and says
"Chance you better get down here and hug me or do I have to make you?" I quickly hug her knowing there'll be consequences if I don't.
She giggles and we all have to separate as class starts. I think to myself that id much rather be online searching up stuff about zombies with Alex. They're my favorite monsters and I've always loved watching movies about them. I've read the zombie survival guide and have even gone as far to prepare for the invasion,(Barely but enough to be noticed) though everyone tells me it'll never happen.
As my teacher drawls on i glance around the class and notice that someone had just slipped in. Lena. I smile in her direction and she returns the favor, adding a wink that i couldn't help but smirk at. I look at all my friends around, and notice that Zeke is late, again. smart guy, kind of slow, and i smile at him as i hear the sound of the P.A system coming on.
"Attention everyone, we apologize for this interruption but must inform you that school will be closed on account of disturbances in close proximity. Everyone is dismissed and is required to get home immediately" I pale as i hear that, because everything was fine, before that
