"Hey," he said as the phone picked up on the other end.
"Hey." There was a brief pause as both of them smiled. "You're working late?"
"Yeah." He looked down at the unsolved case file in front of him.
She made a noise that he knew went with a shrug of her shoulders. She didn't sound too upset. "When will you be home?"
"Ten or so." As he spoke McGee ran into the bullpen, holding a folder. "I gotta go."
"Okay. Be safe."
He smiled at the request and disconnected the call. He turned his attention to the agent in fount of him and instantly transferred his mind back to work. "What have you got McGee?"

He was carrying a small bunch of flowers as he walked in the door- Iris's, her favorite. After hanging up his coat he found her curled up on the couch in her pj's and a fluffy robe, reading a file emblazoned with the NCIS logo, as unable to avoid work as he. She looked beautiful.
She looked up at him and smiled, discarding the file to uncurl her legs and stand before him. He held out the flowers between them. "Peace offering?" It was nearly eleven.
"They're beautiful." She looked back up at him. "Thank you. I didn't expect it, but thank you." She kissed him and took the flowers into the next room. He collapsed on the couch and began unlacing his shoes, conscious of how tired he was.
He could hear water running in the kitchen. "You know Ducky, Tony, Abby and McGee all found it necessary to tell me that it was Valentines Day today. Separately," he emphasized.
"They're just looking out for us," she replied, walking back in, the flowers now in a vase, which she placed on the coffee table. She sat back down beside him, kissing his forehead.
"What?"
She smiled, the one that screamed I know something you don't know. He loved that smile. "They don't want us to screw up, and face it Jethro, you are far more likely to screw this up than I am." This being the ten month long relationship that had eventually started after she transferred off his team to run her own cases.
He looked slightly pissed at that remark, so she dropped the subject. "You hungry?"
He shook his head. They had eaten Chinese- briefly- and now that the adrenaline had worked his way out of his system he was content to just sit here, his arm around her. He kissed her forehead.
"I'm sorry you don't expect it, Katie."
She shook her head a little and shushed him. "I know who you are Gibbs. Flowers don't mean anything compared to just having you here."
He smiled, dropping his head a little, and then looked up and kissed her. She looked him in the eyes for a moment then stood, pulling him with her, and turning out the lights as they left the room. The last few moments of the most romantic day of the year was spent in bed. Sleeping. Together.
