"Unlikely Source"

She just stood there, her feet unable to move. Jimmy's powers had somehow zapped her of her own.

Juggernaut, with a cruel and sadistic smile, advanced, ready to take full advantage of this handicap.

Kitty closed her eyes, expecting Juggernaut to hit her full blast.. But instead, she smelled smoke, and fire. Inching one eye open, she saw Juggernaut's metal coverings melting under intense heat.

"Pyro!"

"C'mon, Jimmy!" Kitty took the boy's hand, and started to run for the open doorway.

Juggernaut saw the sneaks trying to escape, and with his burly hand, snatched Kitty by the throat.

Struggling, against his vice-tight grip, Kitty saw Pyro's jaw tighten, and the flames became more intense. She could feel the heat searing off of Juggernaut. Writhing in pain, Juggernaut dropped her to the ground.

Pyro kept up the heat, and snuck forward. Reaching down, he grabbed Kitty by the arm, "C'mon!"

As Pyro hoisted her up, she was paralyzed in fear. Which was worse? Facing Juggernaut or being a prisoner at the mercy of Magneto?

Kitty reached for Jimmy, and the boy immediately clung to her hand. Striving just to keep up with Pyro, they ran out of the room.

Once outside, Kitty caught her breath, and yanked her arm free from Pyro's grasp. "Why'd you help me?" she blurted out, confused at the sudden turn of events.

Pyro looked at her, "He was going to crush you!"

"But.." Kitty paused, collecting her thoughts -- and her breath. "I had thought you hated the X-Men!"

Looking around, he saw chaos all around him. The Brotherhood of Evil was attacking the X-Men with all their might. "I do."

"But.. then why?"

Pyro took a few steps back, looking in a hurry. He sent Kitty a small grin, "'Cause, it isn't you I hate, Kitty."

Kitty, utterly shocked at his words, watched his retreating form flee from the scene. "He didn't even try to take Jimmy from me…"

She smiled down at Jimmy, and amongst the chaos around her, somehow she felt comforted by John's aid. "From such an unlikely source," she paused, and smiled briefly. "Perhaps there's a chance for him yet."
