Story

This is my latest Fic, I am thinking of keeping it as a one-shot then possibly doing a sequel. If you like it please review and tell me if I should do a sequel. Thanks.

Rachel stood next to Smithy's bedside, wires coming out of his chest and arms, a large bandage across his chest.

"It's all right, your with us, your still with us, thank God. And if you want to do these Ids another time then-" Rachel said trying to hold back the tears.

"No, I will do it's when it's still clear, now." Smithy said.

"OK.

Rachel sat in her office later that day. She needed to tell him how she felt, before it was too late. She new she couldn't keep it a secret for too much longer, it was hard enough holding back the tears earlier that day when she was at the hospital. She looked up at the clock. Five minutes from clocking off.

Smithy lay on the hospital bed, he wasn't going anywhere. What had happened earlier that day had made him see that he needed to tell her, she had the right to know. He had seen the tears forming in her gorgeous blue eyes, He looked at the clock. She would be clocking off in five minutes. He hoped she would come.

Rachel walked through the hospital towards Smithy's ward. She was terrified. She didn't know what to say. What do you say to someone that you are in love with. 'Oh hi Smithy, I just wanted to say that I think I am falling in love with you.' that would just sound completely stupid. Rachel was on Smithy's corridor now. She had to think fast. Something that would tell him how she felt but not sound stupid. Hmm...

Smithy didn't know what to say. How an earth do you tell your inspector that your falling in love with them. 'Hiya ma'am. Oh yeah, I just wanted to say that I am falling in love with you.' That would not sound good. Things would be so awkward if she didn't feel the same. He could hear someone walking down the corridor. He needed to thing of something to say that didn't make him sound like an idiot. Hmm...

Rachel knocked on Smithy's door. She heard a muffled 'come in' from Smithy. She opened the door and walked slowly into the sky blue room. "Hey." She said quietly.

"Hiya, erm, ma'am." Smithy said.

"Please don't call me ma'am when we aren't in the office, I can't stand it." Rachel smiled.

"Hmm, sorry." He said.

"Doesn't matter. How you feeling?" She asked.

"Well, good I suppose for someone who was on deaths door about five hours ago." He smiled sweetly. "I'm glad you came, I really wanted to speak to you."

Rachel nodded slowly. "Well, that's kind of the reason I came, I wanted to talk to you." She said, walking over to the chair next to Smithy's bed and sitting down.

"Well, you go first." Smithy said.

"No, no, you go first." Rachel said.

"OK well, today I thought that was it and that made me think. There is things that I have never told people that they really deserve to know." Smithy took Rachel's hand in his own, a bolt of electricity going though both of them as he did so. "I don't know how to say what I am about to say but, well, this will sound really stupid if you don't feel this way. Rach, I really like you. I mean really, really like you." Smithy said.

Rachel smiled and squeezed Smithy's hand. "Smithy, I really like you too." She said.

"Really?" Smithy questioned, a grin on his face.

"Yeah, really really!" Rachel laughed.

"Well then, that's, well brilliant!" Smithy said. He tried to sit up but failed.

"Do you want me to get the nurse to help?" Rachel asked.

"Hang on," Smithy pushed him self up, wincing in pain as he did so. "Sorted." He smiled. They both leant forwards, feeling each other's breath on their faces. Rachel moved closer, knowing that Smithy couldn't. They shared a short, but sweet kiss. Heaven.
