No, Me First
"It doesn't sound good like that Sherlock."
"Well, your way sounds worse."
"It does not."
"Does."
"Besides, I'm older."
"And that gives you the upper hand in this argument?"
"And I'm the dominant partner."
"We take turns, John."
"So?"
Sherlock rolls his eyes, his lips pursed together in a thin line. He and John are sitting at their kitchen table, clear of all experiments for the moment, nearly glaring at one another. Everything else had seemed so simple in comparison to this.
"Logically, it should be in alphabetical order." Sherlock scoffs.
"I'm telling you, Holmes-Watson does not sound as good as Watson-Holmes." John replies.
Picking out the venue had been simple. Picking out the colours for their tuxes had been a breeze. The flowers, the cake, every little detail for the reception –Sherlock still believes it is all unnecessary, but John insists. Now they just need to decide whose name should go first on the marriage certificate, and John is making things difficult. To Sherlock, it's simple, their names should hyphenate in alphabetical order; but John doesn't want Sherlock's name first. He wants his. It's a childish game of 'no, me first!' between two intelligent and mature grown men.
Hours later Sherlock finally drops back with a dramatic sigh, covering his eyes with his arm, "Fine," The younger man finally concedes through gritted teeth, "We'll go with Watson-Holmes."
John's won. Finally. But… "Are you sure? I don't want you regretting this, I mean, this is something that we'll be called for the rest of our lives together and I don't want you to-"
Sherlock's long body leans across the table and he kisses John to quiet him, "It's fine, love, really." He says in a soft voice, his eyes locking with John's.
John gives that tiny little smile of love and adoration and says, "All right, Watson-Holmes it is."
