Allura pulled in a deep breath, enjoying the way the night air was scented by flowers and freshly tilled dirt. It was summertime on Arus, the days both hot and humid, but tonight, the temperature had dropped and the evening breeze felt both cool and refreshing. The Princess let out a deep sigh, lifting her arms high above her head in a bone-cracking stretch. From behind, she heard the swish of the door and turned to greet the newcomer.
"It's a beautiful night," she seated herself in a nearby chair. "Would you like to join me?"
"I don't want to intrude on your time alone, Princess."
"Sometimes I do come out here for solitude, but tonight I came to do a little stargazing." She watched silently while Keith crossed the terrace. He came to a stop at the guard rail where he leaned out to admire the view.
After a moment, he turned to face her, smiling warmly. "The sky is so clear, you picked the right night."
Allura returned his smile and made her way to his side. She leaned her forearms against the railing and looked up at the inky expanse.
"There's going to be a meteor shower tonight, we should start seeing shooting-there look!" She pointed up at a bright streak making its way across the sky. "Do you see it, Keith? It's so beautiful!"
"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight."
"What a sweet little poem!" Allura turned to smile up at Keith. "Did you make it up just now?"
"No, it's a Terran nursery rhyme I learned as a child," he looked back out at the night before returning his gaze to hers. "There's a tradition on Terra; when you see a shooting star you're supposed to make a wish."
"Oh? And what did you wish for, Captain?"
"I can't tell you that," he grinned mischievously. "If I tell, my wish won't come true."
"There must be something I can do to get you to tell me your most secret wish," she leaned in close and spoke softly. "What if I said please?"
"Princess, I don't think-"
"You don't think...what? That I know what your secret wish is?" One hand curled around the back of his neck, the other caressed his cheek.
"Allura, this isn't a good-" His protest ended when she traced the curve of his lip with her thumb.
"Keith?"
When his only response was a guttural sound, she pulled his head down and softly touched her lips to his. What was meant to be a tender exchange ignited a bright flame and they found themselves breathlessly staring into one another's eyes.
"I guess wishes really do come true," Keith whispered against Allura's lips before reclaiming them with his own in what could only be called an earth shattering kiss.
