There we all stood, waiting for the Demons to break through the gate. The gate to the middle world called Earth. Who are we? We are the army of angels sent by the Heavens to protect this world. Thousands of years into the future, this battle would all be forgotten by nearly everyone and everything.
I am a knight of this army. My name is Vintor. I am merely a small angel by our standards, but still, I'm very agile which gives me the edge. I have blonde hair, fair skin and was standing in the middle of a battalion of archers. My clothes were white, and well kept. My golden wings tucked behind me, though still ready to make fly if needed. I was right in the front. My shield was placed in front of me, protecting my legs from damage. The commander placed her hand up and we all got into battle stance. Our hands reached behind us and grabbed hold of an arrow. As one, we placed our Light infused arrows into the bows sown from the trees of Eden. With an almighty crash, the gate from Hell blasted off its hinges and the Demon's started running forward. Their mouths wobbling from their mutated bodies, their eye's popping at random intervals.
As soon as the Demons were in range, we started firing. A soon as the arrows hit them, the foul creatures exploded into balls of light. One after another I shot at Demons. Hours later, another wave of Demons hit us; these were much stronger, it took nearly five arrows each to defeat them. We weren't fast enough. They broke through our line. Twenty Angels were ripped apart instantly. Not me though. I broke ranks and flew up with the rest of my battalion. We never thought that there were flying demons though. They attacked out of nowhere. Another fifty angels dropped to be eaten by the land Demons. I unsheathed my golden Light infused sword and started slicing and parring the oncoming Demons.
We were outnumbered by thousands. I knew we had to shut the gate then wait for reinforcements. I wasn't paying attention when a monkey shaped Demon landed on my back and started chewing my wings. I screamed. "Get him off me!" Clarence, an angel of old, appeared and with one swift movement, swiped the creature off me. "Pay more attention next time!" he yelled back at me. I realised I dropped nearly to ground level and some Demons were jumping in the air trying to get my feet to drag me to the ground. I started flapping my wings, avoiding all the flying Demons that tried to push me back so their filthy brethren would kill me.
Clarence was setting alight all the ground Demon's with his fire breath, something that only the much older angels could do. Slowly they all started to retreat again. Back into the foul depths of Hell they call home. When they all were back behind the gate line, I shot forward and infused my Light magic into the gate to shut it. My wings glowed and started to shine as my magic filled the gate. The gate turned the same colour as my wings as the magic counteracted the Negative energy that the Demons barraged the gate with.
"You did well, young one" said a voice behind me. I turned to see Clarence, walking towards me.
"Thank you, sir!" I said.
"I have a problem though, that only you can fix." He says while stretching his wings.
"Yes sir?"
"My dear wife has died in the onslaught, and I do not wish to keep the two children she and I made. I want you to bring them up" he said.
"What?" I said
"You will start today naturally"
He clicked his fingers together and two messenger angels appeared, holding two small cradles.
"Here. You must not be seen with these children. They are the key to mankind's survival in the future. " They passed me the cradles, one in each arm.
"Take care of them"
Clarence stretched his wings again and flew back to the castle of Angels. I stood there for what must have been at least half an hour. I put the two cradles into my hands and started flying.
