Simplicity

By The Redundant Goddess…

A Simple Question

"Marry me?"

The words came out of his mouth before he ever had time to think about it.

It was a simple question in theory, he thought, just a simple question with an equally simple answer. Either yes or no, a fifty-fifty deal with no undue fussing about it. As he lay there on the couch with his arms wrapped around her, he figured it was simple enough. But then he figured that setting the timer on the DVD-R player was simple…

She glanced at him with those oceanic blue eyes of hers and smiled that serene, but confused, smile she always got after being asked a daft question or when she had been dozing.

"Huh?" Her voice was as soft as silk and just as sexy.

He laughed at this and pulled away slightly and lifted her chin so that she couldn't miss his attempt at his serious face and repeated the simplistic question.

"Marry me." Although, this time, it was more of a simple statement than a simple question. Either way it worked for him.

Then she smiled.

"Marry you?"

"Yeah, marry me."

The more he said it the more he liked the idea, even though he had said it before to her but hadn't actually thought it was possible. But now, now seemed like the time to get married and especially to her. There weren't any jitters in his bones, no spine tingling chill through his blood and definitely no alarms bells going off in his head telling him to "ABORT! ABORT!" In his mind, this was the perfectly simple idea that could not go wrong.

After a few moments of trying to gage whether her extremely gorgeous, if complete lunatic of a boyfriend, was pulling her leg or not she let out a blissfully happy grin. As she smiled her pretty little head off, the blonde gazed lovingly into his oddly amethyst orbs and spoke.

"Yes."

He blinked.

"Really?"

She nodded.

"Yes really."

In an oddly romantic gesture and as proof of how spontaneous his proposal was, he set free his long chocolate coloured locks and used the black hair band as a make do ring. She raised an elegant eyebrow at this and her beau gave her a sheepish look.

"I've got a proper ring in the other room." He confessed as he dove in for a rather passionate kiss. "But I don't want to move just yet."

"Good." She agreed and wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Neither do I."

Laughter filled the small room of the make shift apartment as the newly engaged couple enjoyed the simplicity of the moment and also enjoyed the intimate side of their relationship. He loved her, she loved him and they would get married have loads of children and live happily ever after. Simple right?

"I love you Duo,"

"I love you too Relena."

If there was one thing the ex-gundam pilot and the ex queen of the world had learned from their lives was that nothing was ever that simple. So why on earth should their wedding be any different? In time they would realise that and look back on this moment with hindsight, Duo more than anyone, and realise their folly. Still, it all seemed so simple at the time… if only they knew.
