Disclaimer: None of the Escaflowne characters are mine, I just own this mindless bit of fluff. This is from Hitomi's POV, btw.
Honesty Is The Best Policy
by ChibiSandrock
Ever since I met Allen Schezar, I've been really homesick, but I've never been able to pinpoint why.
But now I have, and the reason is...
He reminds me so much of Amano that it makes me want to go home more than ever. And...and I want to tell him this..but I don't think I could without crying.
Every once in a while...ever since we came to Asturia, he's stopped me at some point and asked me if I was all right. I so wanted to tell him the truth, but I couldn't.
So I lied to him. For three solid weeks I lied to him, telling him I was fine. I don't know if he believed me or not, but for those three weeks I didn't care.
Finally Van and Merle came to see me. "Hitomi..." Merle started but Van shushed her.
"What?" I said sullenly.
Van glanced at the cat girl standing beside him then looked back up at me. "Allen thinks you've been lying to him for the last three weeks," he said bluntly.
"Yeah well what makes you think that?" I retorted. Van just gave me a look and said, "Go talk to him...he's worried about you."
"Why would a knight that chases nearly anything in a skirt be worried about me?" I growled.
Van just gave me the look again and I relented. "Fine...I'll go talk to him," I said then wandered out.

I found Allen walking down a hallway. "Hey Allen wait up!"
He turned around as I finally caught up to him. "Can I talk to you someplace quiet?" I asked.
"All right," he said, looking around. "There's a room around here somewhere..."
"Don't worry about it, this'll actually work for now," I said.
"So what is it, Hitomi?" Allen asked, looking genuinely worried about me.
Looking down I said softly, "I've been lying to you ever since we got here."
Allen nodded and said, "I figured as much."
I nodded in return and continued, "The reason I'm so homesick is because of you!" With that said I slumped down to the floor and started crying.
"Me?" Allen was surprised obviously. Helping me up he said, "What do you mean, me?"
I calmed down enough to tell him all about Amano. He listened quietly and nodded when I finally stopped talking.
"I understand," he said quietly, giving me a hug. "Feel better now?"
I sniffled, wiped my face and nodded. "Yeah...well like my parents always say...honesty's the best policy."
Allen chuckled and said, "For once, I agree with them."
"Whatever," I playfully retorted then headed back down the hall to catch up with Van and Merle.
The End
