The Secret in the Past

Set after season 2 finale. 10 years have passed, elementary schools are getting closed. Humanity is facing extinction. Or are they?

Jackson Oz discovers a way to save humanity after Abe and Clementine come knocking to his door.

Botswana.

He woke up at the crack of dawn. Animals no longer were a sound to be heard, not even where he lived. His body had gotten used to not depending on animals anymore. None other than Charlie's pet, a dog named Bobber.

"Dad?" He heard someone call from the other side of the door, the house was small enough there wasn't a lot of privacy. "Dad?"

"Yeah?" Jackson had already opened his eyes to find Charlie stating at him. "Someone is here."

"What do you mean someone? Who?" Charlie shrugged. Jackson didn't like that. He wasn't meant to open the door on anyone, not even of they lived in the remotest corner of the world. "Stay here."

Jackson stood up slowly, a bat in one hand, he thought holding on to a riffle while his child was at home wasn't the best idea. He didn't want to take the last drops of innocence away. Not yet.

"You better not be beating me up with a bat Rafiki." A familiar thick accent said. "I come in peace."

"Abe?"

"How are you my friend?" He asked warmly. "It's been a while."

It had been, far too long, Jackson assed. "What are you doing here?"

"We've come to ask for your help."

"We?"

"Jackson." He had not noticed the young girl at his friend's side. "You might not remember me but…"

"Clementine." Jackson said quickly.

"Are you Dr. Morgan daughter?" Charlie asked. "Dad talks about him a lot."

"Charlie, please go to your room." Jackson told the little boy. "Now."

"But…" Jackson shot him a look. Charlie had learned early on in his life that if his father meant run it was run, and right now he had the same look on his face he got when there was a crisis. "Fine, come on Bobber."

It was late when he slipped into a slumber, his muscles were sore, his head was spinning and his heart hurt. Seeing Abe and Clementine and finding out Mitch might not be dead brought a lot of feelings.

Cloe was dead. And unlike Mitch and Jamie she hadn't been able to cheat death.

"Rafiki?" Abe found him with the light still on, on the couch. "You alright?"

"How is it people keep coming back from to life? My dad, Jamie and now Mitch but not Chloe. My kid hasn't had his mother since he was just a baby Abe. I couldn't save and she can't come back. Yet, everyone else does." Abraham could see tears glistening from his eyes. "How sick is the world?"

"The world is sick but not because of those who keep coming back Oz, it is sick because of what has happened to us, to the animals, but it's our job to fix it."

"What for? We'll all be dead soon anyway. Our race gone."

"Maybe, but we still not there. The game isn't over yet, and Chloe wouldn't have wanted you to give up."

"No, but she isn't here, so I might as well join her soon enough, I think I'd be happier."

"Jackson." Abe scolded him. He hadn't noticed Charlie had slipped out of bed.

"Are we going to die?" A small voice asked. Smaller than his ten year old self.

Jackson's heart sank. "No, buddy, no I didn't mean it like that." He said sweetly. "Come here."

Charlie moved over to the couch, unsure of how to approach him. "You're gonna fix everything, you and Abe and Dr. Morgan, I know you will."

"Charlie."

"You promised Mom you wouldn't give up." He was right. He had indeed made that promise.

"I'm going to try my best." Jackson said honestly.

"Good."

Okay! More to come if you want to. This story is probably going to be shorter than what I'm used to.
