Thief

"I have officially gone nuts. That's it!" I stood staring at Professor Elm's lab. My plan was to steal one of his starter Pokemon, but now I find myself saying, "Self, what the hell were you thinking?!" Half of me wanted to run away and get a Pokemon the good old-fashioned way. My other half wanted me to just steal the Pokemon and get out. My other half won…

I was free of the Mask of Ice and I was going to prove that I could make it on my own. It was rumored that Professor Elm has some of the best Johto starters. I was going to take one of them and become the strongest trainer in the world!

But, now standing in front of the lab, along with every other thought going through my head, I was wishing that Green was here. She could calm me down and smooth talk her way out of any situation. She was like a mentor and a big sister to me. She's a region away, but still…

I scanned the place to try and find an unguarded spot. I ran around to the left side of the building and smiled at a window on the dark side of the lab. The window was very large and I could easily fit through it, but it was a good foot above my head when I got beneath it. I scowled and looked for something to stand on. There was nothing near the wall, but on the outskirts of the woods surrounding the lab, there was a pile of a great variety of wood, from twigs to large sections of tree trunks. I found a nice size chunk of a tree trunk, but boy was it heavy! I finally just rolled it on its side over to the window then stood it upright.

I called out my Sneasel, the only Pokemon I have for now. I reached out my arm and he silently climbed up onto my head. He cleanly cut a large rectangle out of the window and jumped through. I hopped up onto my cross-section of wood. My head was easily above the window and I climbed through. Except I was expecting the ground to be closer… I accidentally yelped as I fell, and I hit the floor pretty dang hard! Sneasel gave me a look, and I glared back. I prayed that no one had heard me.

I looked around at the room. It was blue with white shelves containing rows and rows of Pokeballs on both sides of the room. In the middle of the room, there was a triangular table with three Pokeballs on top. I couldn't believe my luck! This was the room where they kept the Pokemon! I quietly giggled like a schoolgirl.

I clamped my hand over my mouth when I heard footsteps. I did what any normal person would do… I panicked. While I was running in circles, Sneasel had jumped onto the ceiling and grabbed the pipes on it. He quickly yanked me up as I ran by. I clung to the pipes for dear life as Professor Elm himself walked in. He gazed at his starters for a second, adjusted his glasses, and turned to the other Pokeballs. Slowly, but surely, I lowered myself over the starter's Pokeballs.

God darn it!! Why can't these things be labeled?! I thought to myself. I grabbed one quickly, but of course, I fell with a great crash… Professor Elm turned around so fast his glasses nearly flew off his face. When he noticed one of the starters was missing, his face paled and he ran out of the room. When he was gone, I stood up and hurriedly brushed myself off.

"Crap… I'm in trouble," I mumbled. I pulled a table over to the window and got up on it. Sneasel agilely jumped through and I soon followed.

I landed in the grass and quickly recalled Sneasel back into its Pokeball. Then I ran. I ran as if there was an Ursaring after me! I could hear the alarms in the laboratory going off, and I kept running. This Pokemon, whatever it was, was mine now. I didn't care if I stole it, it was still mine. This Pokemon would bring me to the top, and finally, I would be the one looking down on him.
