She could see two faces above her. They looked oddly large when in comparison to her baby build. The man and the woman were looking down on her with such love and such adoration, it was a true miracle.
The woman had long, curly brown hair and clear, light brown eyes. Her face held all the beauty the world had known and she couldn't seem to look away from her beautiful new infant. The man had longish sandy-blonde hair and warm, light brown eyes. He had his arm around his wife, encircling his whole family.
The two sang a beautiful lullaby, one that only they knew. It was a sweet song, a simple sign of love and affection.
"No more talk of darkness, forget these wide-eyed fears; I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard to and to guide you…"
But something was wrong. Her parents faces were distorting…blurring in and out of focus. Then, their forms seemed to be receding from her view, like she was traveling backwards. Screams were all around her, confusion, hurt, and pain,--all blurred into a swirling mass of color and sound…but she could still see the tortured expressions on her parents face as they tried to keep her to them. She was wrenched from her mother's grip, and her father tried to grab her, but she fell into nothingness…
Then, the color settled into definite shapes and figures again. The surrounding area was much different than the one she had just left. The light here was harsh, bright, and artificial. The air was unnaturally warm. She missed the natural heat and light from fires and candles.
A shadow suddenly fell across her line of vision. A woman stood over her. A woman with extremely short curly hair, blue eyes, and a thin face swam into focus. Surprise, worry and fright flitted across her pretty, yet tired face. This wasn't her mother…where was she? She started to wail, then scream as she realized her mother was gone.
The woman above her became anxious and picked her up. The rocking motion, so like her mother's touch, made her mad, and she screamed even louder. Her screams brought a man running. A man who wasn't her father. His short brown hair was spiky, and messy, and his green eyes were wild, and confused.
Words gurgled around her, to fast and unarticulated to be understood. They seemed to be debating something. The man reached to take her into his arms.
Her scream went on and on and on and on and on. Where were her mother and father? Why was here? Her infant mind exploded with worry, anxiety, and confusion. Screaming, screaming, screaming…
