I always hate it when they create an epic love story and make the girl forget. Joss Whedon did it in Angel, and they did it in Superman II. Here's a one shot where Lois tells Clark where to take his 'magic kiss.' (from Superman II). Richard Donnor said in his cut that Clark can't kiss Lois Lane. Pre-1986 Superman was the person in the story, and Clark Kent was the secret identity. However in 1986 they revamped the comic series, making Clark Kent the person, and Superman being the Secret Identity. Lois and Clark were married in the TV show Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman and in the comics in 1996. Therefore I think that it is foolish for Superman to chose to erase their relationship. (In the Richard Donnor cut he does the whole, turn the world back thing that he did in Superman I). This is a short clip based on the Donnor cut of Superman II where Lois tells Clark he doesn't have to choose.
Never Forget
They had made love. Lois was so happy. She had the man she loved more than anything. As she walked out of the bedroom, she could hear Clark. He was arguing with the voice of his dead father. "My attatchments, um, my feelings which I have developed for a certain human being have deeply affected me father."
"You cannot serve humanity by investing time and emotion in one human being at the expense of the rest."
She couldn't take it anymore, "Why not?"
The recording looked directly at her, feeling alive. "Who are you?"
"Lois. I love your son, and I want to ask you, how can you send you to be raised in this world with six billion people, ask him to care for all of them, and never once think of his own happiness? I don't require 24/7 attention. He can be Superman, saving the world, and he can come home to me, be Clark Kent for me."
"Do you love Superman or Clark Kent?" The voice asked. She looked down in the face of the man who wanted to destroy who he was.
"Superman is Clark Kent. I love him."
"For your selfish love, would you have him give up his mission to serve mankind."
"No, he wouldn't be the man I love if he did."
"Than your relationship cannot be."
Lois stood up straight, "Clark, let's go, we have a deadline."
He looked at her dismissal, "Lois?"
"Clark, he's not your father, he's a recording of a person long dead. You don't need his permission to be with me."
"I want his approval."
"That machine can't give it to you."
Clark looked back at the image of Jor-El. "Let's go."
Fin.
