Two Out of Three

Excitement flowed throughout the ARC. Lester heard the giddy whispers of the secretaries before anything else.

Than, as the dirty, disheveled pair made their way through the doors and into the main area of the ARC to claps on the back and rowdy cheers from their friends and coworkers, Minerva (his personal secretary) turned to him with a grin and said something that reminded him of his daughter.

She's sixteen, has begun to rebel. Lester and his wife strive to instill order, but she fails to listen.

Except, of course, for when she wants something.

A few years ago it was dolls and a dog, this year; it was no curfew, piercings and a car.

She argued for days. First with his wife, and then when he came home for the weekend, he joined the fight as well. The couple sat through tantrums, shouting matches, and the equivalent of her holding her breath until her face turned blue. She wanted to have these trivial things and she wasn't going to take no for an answer. Her reasoning, she argued, was that they could afford the items and consequences, so why not let her have them?

Than, as Sunday night rolled around, Lester looked at his watch, saw it was late, and ran out of patience.

"You know what Abigail?"

Which really was her name, god forbid he ever told Maitland about it though.

"This really has gone on quite long enough, and I have to leave for the city in an hour. Give up on the car, we'll forgo the curfew for weekends and holidays only, and you can get one piercing as long as it's not in an area that's not even remotely sexual."

His wife froze and stared at him, shocked. Abigail had merely closed her mouth and blinked. "So…I get two out of three?"

Lester nodded stiffly. "Two out of three."

Abigail didn't even think. She merely shrugged and held out a hand to shake on it. "Two out of three isn't so bad. Deal."

"Sir?"

Lester blinked and looked to see Minerva eyeing him concernedly, but still with a smile on her face. "I'm sorry," he said. "What?"

She smiled wider. "I said, we're still missing Danny Quinn, but two out of three's not so bad, right?"

Lester thought about it for a moment and frowned. "As soon as those two are cleaned up, tell that overpaid tech of ours I want him working with Temple to keep developing the anomaly opener. I want Danny Quinn found."

Minerva blinked in surprise at his abrupt tone. "Y-yes sir, of course."

Lester nodded and headed down the ramp to give a greeting to the pair. He was glad they were back, but in a situation like this, there was no such thing as "not so bad." This was not a silly deal with his daughter. He wanted all three back, and he wouldn't be satisfied until they were.

A/N: I got all excited for the Primeval trailer that's online. So I threw this together while I was bored at school. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think.

THANKS!
