Warning: Spoilers for IY Movie 3. This really won't make any sense if you haven't seen the movie.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Don't sue me, thanks.
A/N: A very, very short idea that wouldn't leave me alone. Born of Sesshomaru's last line in the movie.

'Sesshomaru-sama?'
'Hmm?'
'Who is Izayoi?'
There was a moment of silence as Sesshomaru blinked. Where had the child heard that name? Involuntarily, his glance went to Jaken, and the toad youkai started. Shaking his head, he hurried forward to bop his charge on the head with his staff.
'Insolent creature! Always so curious! What does it matter to you who Izayoi is? Why can't you just—'
'Rin.'
The girl skipped closer to him, even as Jaken fell silent with a gulp.
'Where did you hear that name?'
'That man you fought with before…the one who tried to take your Tensaiga…'
He frowned. Who was she talking of?
His confusion must have been apparent, because Rin huffed impatiently, and waved her hand in front of her head to indicate a horn.
'I think his name was…Takemaru,' she said.
Ah.
'So who is Izayoi, my lord?'
He blinked again, still not sure how to answer her question, any more than he was the first time she had asked it.
'Izayoi…was…Inu Yasha's mother,' he said finally.
'Your brother, Inu Yasha?' Rin asked, her brow furrowing. 'The one who travels with Kagome-sama?'
He nodded, and she frowned as she thought aloud.
'But then… why did he say I was like her, then?'
'Explain.'
She looked up at him with a questioning gaze.
'That man, Takemaru—he said that Kagome-sama and I were Izayoi. He said that women who go with youkai were like her.'
He blinked again, taken aback. Rin was like Izayoi?
Shaking his head, he said to her, 'He was being possessed by the sword Sou'unga. He did not know what he was saying.'
She shrugged, still not understanding, but accepting his explanation all the same. She smiled at him, and then settled down for the night as dusk approached.
Half an hour later, as Jaken's snores and Rin's soft breathing filled the night air, Sesshomaru allowed a small frown to cross his forehead.
Rin…was like Izayoi?
He remembered uncomfortably the moment when he had crossed Tensaiga with Sou'unga, and the blade had whispered to him: 'When the blades touch, I understand everything about you.'
Everything?
Was there anything in the claim that Rin was like Izayoi—the human woman his daiyoukai father had taken to wife? Would she grow up to become more to him than just a human who had come into his protection?
Had Sou'unga seen something in him that he himself did not want to admit—atleast, not yet?
He shook his head irritably at his own thoughts. He was letting his imagination run away with him.
Rin, growing up to become like Izayoi. Himself, following in his father's footsteps.
Ridiculous.
