Monster
By: Sinnamon Spider
He had turned many men to piracy. Joshamee Gibbs had been a good, if typical, sailor in the Royal Navy. Anamaria had been a sweet, docile innkeeper's daughter. Even Will Turner had promise, a talented blacksmith's apprentice who would have no doubt taken over John Brown's forge.
He had turned many men to piracy, recruiting in need and feeling no regret. There was much to be said for a pirate's life, after all.
But here, he had created a monster.
The manacle clanked shut around his wrist, the heavy iron weighing him down even as her lips broke from his. He watched her silently as she gasped out her reasons.
She leaned back in. "I'm not sorry." But her voice broke and betrayed her words and her hands clung to him as though she would never let him go.
He leaned back to study her watery eyes, her smudged face, her tangled hair, feeling every inch of her that still pressed against him. He had made her into what she was, and he would now, for the very first time, feel the consequences.
He had created a monster.
But wasn't she glorious?
He tilted his head, bemused. "Pirate."
His single word burned into her soul, like the brand that had scarred a "P" into his arm, searing hot and painful but leaving no mark. She dragged herself away, watching his eyes never leave hers until she had groped her way down the ladder.
"Where's Jack?"
She gripped the seat tightly, not meeting Will's eyes. "He elected to stay behind to give us a chance," she bit out. She felt the shock roll over the little boat. She glared up at Gibbs, frozen in disbelief.
"Let's go!" she snapped, before she changed her mind.
