"I can't wait."

"Whatcha mean?" John barely stirred - his right eye opening slowly to glance at Mary's equally peaceful form. It had been one of those days. Those handful of days in the dead of summer where there was nothing for it 'cept to lie back somewhere in the shade and count your blessings with the breezes. They still had at least a dozen more boxes to unpack waiting up in the house but for now, he and his wife were going to take in this day from under the cottonwood in the front yard.

"We're just starting out John," Mary rolled over resting her elbows on the soft grass and cupping her chin in her hands "We've got our house now and our life together, it's really beginning."

"If I remember correctly, I've known you going on four years now; we've more than just started." She found her lips curling up of their own accord, mirroring the dip of John's mouth without her permission.

"You know what I mean." His skin was almost too hot against her face even through his shirt as she laid her head against his chest, looking out at their new home. "We have a house and we have all the time in the world to make it a home." Propping her chin against his chest she looked up at him, his eyes still closed, a hint of a smile still playing at the corner of his lips. "To fill it with little boys and girls, and food and warmth. To make a place they come home to for Christmas and Easter, where we throw birthday parties and barbeques. You know, stuff like that."

"Yeah, I know." He replied gruffly, squeezing her to his side almost reflexively. He placed a gentle kiss on her slightly damp forehead "I can't wait either."
