Claire would watch Charlie every now and then, she had the prefect view from her tent. She looked up at him when she was sure that Aaron would be ok. She missed being with Charlie, missed hearing his voice seeing him smile, hearing his music. She missed how well he interacted with Aaron.
Lie awake in bed at night
And think about your
life
Do you want to be different?
Yet she couldn't forget what he had done. She couldn't forget how it had made her feel, because if she forgot she would forgive him. And she would let him back so easily she wasn't sure she was really ready to let him back in.
Try to let go of the truth
The battles of your
youth
Cuz this is just a game
Sometimes she couldn't help but feel as if there was somebody playing with them, watching them just for there amusement. They had nothing better to do. That's probably what The Others were doing.
It's a beautiful
lie
It's the perfect denial
They wanted them to believe all sorts of things, and no one trusted one another so they all lied. Charlie had lied to her, and she couldn't forgive him yet. She watched him walk over to Sayid, she was glad he still had friends, she was happy that he wasn't isolated. A man like Charlie wouldn't deal well with isolation and Claire would never forgive herself if she had led him to being alone.
Such a beautiful lie to
believe in
So beautiful, beautiful it makes me
And it
wasn't a lie to hurt her. It seemed like he lied to protect her
both times. She was unsure of what to do she had no one to turn to,
to talk to. She didn't trust John not to go and hurt Charlie again
and she couldn't live with that. She didn't want to cause him
anymore pain.
It's time to forget about the past
To
wash away what happened last
When Charlie was no longer with Sayid, when he was sitting playing his guitar alone Claire approached him. "Charlie?" she asked not sure how to really start talking.
"Claire." was his response.
"I'd like to
talk to you… to sort things out."
Hide behind an empty
face
Don't ask too much, just say
That this is just a
game
Charlie looked up at her with a blank face. "All right,"
"I think it's time for us to move on. Move on in some way to just get passed this…"
Charlie nodded.
"We can't pretend that none of this ever happened because then we would be lying to ourselves. We can go back to just being friends… going through the motions, Or we can move into an even higher game. Something that means more, and risks more."
Charlie was unsure of how to answer that.
Everyone's looking at me
I'm
running around in circles, baby
"A higher game?" he asked wanting to know what that meant for sure.
"Well, sometimes it feels like we're just playing a game of sorts anyway. A higher game would be the reason that your lie hurt me so much is because I think I love you…"
Charlie swallowed. "You love me?"
"I think so."
A quiet desperation's
building higher
I've got to remember this is just a game
Charlie stood and hugged her happily. "I love you, Claire. I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't want to lose you. It just felt better to have it around, it was a stupid crutch I know. I don't need it anymore, I just need you and Aaron."
"So are we moving higher?" she asked hugging him back.
"If that's what you want I'll do whatever, so long as it's with you."
Claire pulled back and smiled "So beautiful, beautiful…" and she kissed him softly.
