"Watch it geek."
I didn't bother to look up. I kept my nose berried in my book and kept walking. His name is Kai. Any cheerleaders dream boyfriend. He's captain of the football team and first string quarterback. His two toned hair always sways when he walks, and his eyes are a dangerous crimson. I've heard in the girls bathroom that his eyes are so deep you could get lost on them. Not my words! It's just what I've heard in the girls bathroom. Supposedly he was perfect. Except he was a total jerk. Fine, a total jerk to anyone who wasn't a football player, cheerleader, or any girl who wore a short skirt. And I mean short!
I really don't have any friends here. I don't fit. I didn't really try, but nobody welcomed me either. It's hard to make friends. Especially in a school full of snobs.
Everybody here brakes into little groups. One of the most popular groups-scratch that- the most popular group is a group of first string football players. Kai Hiwatari, Tyson Granger, Ray Kon, and Max Tate. And they have a pack of girls following them around. I think every girl has followed them around once or twice, except me. I've talked to Max several times. He was my partner in science. I've talked to Ray once because the teacher assigned us to raise an egg as our child in Biology. He assigned it yesterday. Were supposed to meet up sometime this afternoon. He said he'd tell me in Biology. Probably at his house, which will most likely be filled with football players.
"Hilary! Hey Hilary, wait up!"
I didn't stop. There were tons of Hilary's at this school. I didn't have anybody who would call my name.
"Hilary!"
I stopped as a hand grabbed my shoulder. I turned around and came face to face with Ray.
"Hilary, can we do the project at your house?"
"Sure."
"Great. See you at 2:30." He waved as he ran off.
XXXXXX
"Hey Hilary."
I jumped. I didn't even hear him ring the doorbell.
"Oh, hey Ray. I'll be right there. Just let me put the finishing touches on my picture."
I didn't look up as I heard Ray's book bag hit the floor and his footsteps move around. I was so intent on finishing that I didn't hear or see Ray come stand behind me until I felt his hands go on either side of me and his breath on my cheek.
"You captured him perfect. His eyes especially."
I leaned back to look at my picture better. I was so captured by my picture that I didn't relies that my head was now resting on Ray's chest or that his hands were massaging my shoulders and neck. I looked down at my now finished picture. It was a close up of Kai. His hair, you could tell was multicolored even thought it had no color. His eyes held that cold look to them, but if you looked close enough, you could see the concern hiding in the depths of his eyes. In the bottom of left corner I had written Fennikkusu in red fiery letters. I smiled at the picture. I got a scowl in return. This was one of my best pictures ever. I was finally aware of Ray. Where he was and what he was doing. Resisting the urge to just stay put for a little longer, I turned around and told Ray we should get started.
